The Mauradar Episode 4
Reports of missing people emerge, and Casey suggests the Red Serpents. A new gang makes themselves known.
Casey was back in his lab, pondering over his encounter with Steel Monger. Who was he? How did he get his powers? Was he working for the Serpents? These and similar questions raced through his mind. A news bulletin popped up on one of his monitors.
'Breaking: locals missing. Please contact Captain Dawes if you have any information."
"Missing, huh? Maybe the Serpents." Casey thought aloud as he read through the article. First Steel Monger now this? What other threats loom on the horizon.
In a large facility sat a giant machine, still under construction. One of the same men from before in this organization stood in a viewing area, overseeing it's development. This man's name was Opus, and had named this organization after himself. He detected the presence of one of his subjects.
"Yes?" He stated dryly, slightly raising an eyebrow.
"Sorry to disturb you master, but I have some news regarding the new recruit of the Red Serpents, also known as the ex Martyrs."
"I'm well aware of that cover. What's the news?"
"Steel Monger has just received his upgrade He should be strong enough to defeat the Marauder. He has yet to discover our presence."
"I know, no need to remind me." Opus said, a hint of frustration developing in his voice. "How are our 'guests' doing?"
"We had a new one this morning, and he's just been hooked up. How do we know when their life force has fully charged the machine?"
"Let me worry about that. For now, give the Red Serpents their next mission."
The subject nodded, and left the room. In another part of the building, there was a room with uniquely designed mechanical objects. They were hooked up to human beings, unconscious. They had a helmet strapped to them, each one making a rhythmic pulsing sound as they drained their life force, making each victim more week and frail. When they died, their energy was added to the machine and their bodies were disposed of.
Casey spent almost the entire day searching all of Vegas for any sign of the missing people, but turned up empty handed. It's almost as if they had vanished into thin air. It seems each lead he followed lead him nowhere.
"Captain," Officer Clements got his Captains attention. He was still focused on his encounter with the Marauder. He'd loose his badge if the officials knew of his secret affair. It was going to be a hard one to keep.
"Yes Clements?" He responded.
"This is Erick Davidson." A tall, short blonde haired man approached the captain. He was wearing a black buttoned coat, along with nice pants. He also had a bag of what appeared to be black powder. "He's the new CSI."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Davidson." The two shook hands, and the captain took note of his firm grip.
"What do you got for me?" The Captain was eyeing the bag of black powder.
"Were you notified of the heist that went on last week?" The CSI asked.
"Yes, there was a shipment of jewels that were robbed by a gang, who we're still looking into. They're new, and they're good. But someone, or something intervened. Where does that powder come in?" The Captain noticed it had a certain gleam to it, and it definitely wasn't pleasant.
"That's just it, Captain. I ran every test I possibly could. Nothing came up as a known element on the periodic table, no known mineral or metal. We did find, that it fluctuates small amounts of electricity. But other than that, we're all completely lost"
The Captain was both confused and amazed at the CSI's description. Something was definitely going on. Maybe it had something to do with the Marauder.
"First the missing people, now this? What's next?" The Captain sighed. They also had no leads on the missing people and presumed they were dead.
"Let me know right away if you find any more of this powder, or the source where it comes from."
Back in the underground area with the huge machine, progress was being made. Innocent victims life force energy was being forcefully sucked out of them to help run the machine, and they would end up dead as a result. For the organization known as Opus, things were going smoothly.
"I thought we had an agreement," an intimidating man said to another frightened man on the ground, restrained by two other men wearing masks.
"Im sorry, I-I-I was ambushed!" He stammered.
"By what?" The first man withdrew a sword.
"Some crazy guy wearing this high tech armor. I swear, it wasnt my fault-"
He was cut off by the man slicing his head off with one swipe of his sword. The other mans corpse lay on the ground, a pool of blood slowly formed.
"We have no room for mistakes. Whoever this high tech armor guy is, we must get rid of him. I take it you two can handle it?" He looked at his men, and they nodded.
The two men then left the hideout, on the search for the Marauder.
Casey was patrolling the streets, determining to find the Red Serpents. With all this gang activity and a new report of an up and cominy gang, he would have to be at his best.
Casey then saw two men walking in his direction. He soon realized that they were armed, so Casey readied his armor. The latest version was just a black overshirt disgused to look like everyday clothing but with all his gear minimized in. All of the sudden, the men shot lasers in Caseys direction, but he was able to avoid it thanks to his dark matter projection. He readied his gauntlet blasters, and fired his dark matter at the two men, but it reflected off what seemed like an invisible shield.
"Impossible..." He said, confused and shocked at what he just witnessed.
He shot more dark matter but it ended in the same result, deflecting off a subtle shield. The men withheld their weapons and engaged Casey in combat. They were highly skilled, and it was a fighting style Casey had never seen before. He did all he could to fend them off, and they seemed to have an energy absorber in their suits. They then slowed down and zapped Casey with a beam weapon, paralyzing him.
"We've seen enough. Lets go." One of the men said through a voice modulator.
Casey was too weak to say anything, and watched the two men walk into the dark. Casey then crawled into an alley to not be seen, to let the paralysis wear off.
"I take it your mission was succesful?" The boss asked the two men.
"Yes. The tracker is in place, and was executed in the most ingenious of ways. See, we used the Paralysis Ray to electrically discharge a tracker into his system that will wear off eventually, but will give us enough time to reveal his base."
"Very good. Once Project Rebirth is complete, Opus will reward you."
Casey was able to make it back to his lab with the last of the strength that he had, anf that paralyzing beam left him with a huge headache, and his head full of questions. Who were those two men? How did they have such advanced armor and weaponry? Why were my blasts innefictive? Were they part of the Red Serpents?
In the following days, the result of the missing people surfaced. They had suffered a tragic fate. The report showed atleast 20 bodies strewn across by a large drain pipe, looking like skeletons but still had skin on, skin that looked like it had been burnt, but not exactly. It had scientists baffled. Casey worked days and nights to perfect his armor even more. Whatever this new threat was, he needed to be ready. To add to that, Casey had no idea when Steel Monger would strike next.
