Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks- Review
By. Justin Azevedo

Synopsis: In the year 2380 a support crew that serves the least important ship, The USS Cerritos. Station at this ship are Beckett Mariner (Voiced by. Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Voiced by. Jack Quaid), D'Vana Tendi (Voiced by. Noël Wells) and Sam Rutherford (Voiced by. Eugene Cordero) where they struggles trying to fulfill they're duties as Crew members, while also working on bettering their own personal lives!

     Captain's Log-Stardate, 8/6/2020: (Second Contact)
A great kick off to this New Series. I like what they did with the opening credits, the classic ship exploring space, but breaking down, fleeing a battlefield or getting suck into a vertex, really tells that the ship known as the Cerritos is not very important as been pointed out in the overall plot of this Series. The characters are exactly what you can expect from this series. They have that Star Trek vibe, the serious and kinda drama from other Series of the franchise, but also that animated vibe, like Rick and Morty and Final Space. The Series does follow what the Star Trek franchise is all about, but also having the wacky adventures that Animated Comedy Series are about.

Brad Boimler, an Ensign on the Cerritos. He is a mixture of Quinn(Final Space) and Morty(Rick & Morty). He's smart and respects protocol, but also whiney and boring and doesn't know how to think for himself. He wants to be a Captain one day, but lack's the real confidence to do so. Plus he ha trouble when dealing with Beckett Mariner! But he shows that he does have some backbone in him and will stick up for his friends. He can be a Captain one day, but that will probably be a very long day!

Becket Mariner, also a Ensign onboard the Cerritos. She is a mixture of Gary(Final Space) and Rick(Rick & Morty). She truly doesn't care about moving up in Star Fleet and thinks any issues that are related to Star Fleet is not her problem. She definitely doesn't respect any kind of Chain in Command, especially who is in Command if the Cerritos, were gonna see a lot of tension between he and Captain Freeman. She does however care about other, and wants to help people who she thinks Star Fleet doesn't care to help and always be there for her friends, including Brad! I think she thinks he can also be a Captain and wants to help him, plus she also has no trouble looking for a good reason to drink beet and get drunk!

D'Vana Tendi, newcomer to the Cerritos in the Med Bay. She's got spirit, she ready to take on anything that comes to her, but when the unexpected comes, she can get quite overwhelmed by it first, but thinks it's an overall thrill! She's gonna enjoy her time at the Cerritos and with her new friends, especially Sam!

Sam Rutherford an engineer on the Cerritos, as well as a new Cyborg. He's still getting use to his new enhancements, and has trouble expressing himself, he thinks he can't express himself enough, but through the episode he expresses himself far too much. He's got that way of thinking, like saying what's on your mind, and speaking out on the issue's that aren't really that big of a deal to other's but to him it's everything, as well as to D'Vana!

The episode was amazing, and the first conflict for the crew to face was a good choice, the best way to bring out all of the abilities that each of the character's have. Also the many References and Easter Eggs that were in there were really spot on. There is gonna be a lot of fun adventures in this series, each episode will no doubt, test the main core characters in unique ways and I cannot wait to see it all, as well as the Comedy that will be put into the series! There were a lot of funny stuff, Brad getting sliced, then eaten kind of, Becket and her attitude and getting other's into trouble, D'Vana with the Heart, Sam and his robot parts!

My Rating of Star Trek: Lower Decks-Episode 1 is.... (Hilarious)

     Captain's Log - Stardate, 8/13/2020: (Envoys)
This episode centers on mostly, Mariner, Brad and Sam. Mariner and Brad assign a mission to excort a Cleon General, while Sam explored other career option so he can keep a promise!

One thing I've discover from the episode 2 is that every episode will have a random comedic opening, that is not related to the main plot to the story.

Mariner Beckett, continues to show that she has her own way's of doing things that are not Star Fleet regulation's and we learn that she has gone through a lot in her life that she considers to be Awesome! We see that she has hung out with a lot of Warrior driven people, and also learn on what to watch out for when in sticky situation's. We also see her showing Brad, how things really work with other cultures, that make him question/doubt himself as he get's into situation's that she needs to bail him out of. We see that she continues to like messing with Brad, but also wants to help him and give him the boost that he needs!

Brad Boimler, learns a lot in this episode. He thought he was just having a routine escorting mission, but things don't go the way he wanted it when Mariner joined and soon found himself stranded on a planet, no transport or communication. While stranded he tries to use his knowledge of protocol as well as knowledge of other culture's, but soon finds it all useless and watching as Mariner bails him out of all the situation's with her own style and knowledge. He learning about it all, by researching it, is not the same as actually gaining the knowledge and experience first hand, like Mariner and that make him doubt himself if Star Fleet is where he's meant to be. But, (unknown to his knowledge) Mariner help's give him the boost and showing that what he knows isn't useless, when she puts herself into a situation that could prove disastrous.

Sam Rutherford, explores other career option's on the ship beside being an engineer, not cause he believes he's meant for other greater thing, but to keep a promise to D'Vana to hang out with her. His first two option's the Bridge and Medic center end badly. When in the Simulator that is simulating the bridge, he is given situation's on course heading that lead to collision's and he's unable to figure out what the right course should be and it ends with either the whole ship being destroyed and the kindergarten area destroyed, but overall lead to the death, so that's not good choice for him. When he tries out the Medic Center, he feels more relax at first, that he's helping and working with D'Vana, but when situation arise where he needs to keep a patient calm, he's unable to really give that and after he learns of the patient's condition he freaks him out even more, so that is another option down. In his third choice, Security he finds he has a knack for it, thanks to his cybernetics and think's he has found a fit. However he realizes that his place is with engineering at the end and goes back where he belongs. As for his promise with D'Vana she was able to work around it and he was able to keep it.

The show continues to bring in references to past series, alien's that we have seen, but giving it a more comedic route, as with the series. another gag they use in this episode is when Sam announce his switching of career's his superior's acted with great amount of disappointment , but accepted and respected his choice and told him good luck. Mariner and Brad partnership continues to be tested, as they find each of their ideal's contradicting to the other, but able to come to an understanding! The Show continues to show a lot of humor, but also give some emotional support.

My Rating of Star Trek: Lower Decks - Episode 2 is.... (Funny)

     Captain's Log - Stardate, 8/20/20: Temporal Edicts
The Cerritos Crew work like crazy and look like hell in order to improve they're status on Star Fleet (Mostly Because of Boimler). While Mariner is assign to Jack's team to deliver a package to a crystal planet in the name of peace, but things go wrong on both in the Ship and down on the Planet!

Mariner is working with her second least favorite person on the ship (1st no doubt the Captain aka her mother) Jack Ransom! The two initially become at odds with each other when she showed up late. As they touch down on the Planet the two continued to be at each other's throat, with him pulling rank and her ignoring it. When things got heated, she immediately burst into action and kicked a lot of ass! When she, Jack and the team are captured, she is ready to fight for their freedom, but Jack believing as the First Officer should be the one to do it, upon which she ignores, and talk's about how she has better experience in situation's like these and showing the scars to prove it. The episode shows that she truly has no respect towards anyone in higher rank, as she believes that care more about protocol than helping others when they need it, but that belief changes in Jack, as he shows that his team is everything to him! Mariner starts to have conflicted thoughts towards him, that she starts to reject.

Boimler got everyone in a tough spot, when he revealed a lower deck's secret in time off! When the rest of the crew struggle in completing their assign task, with difficulty it, Boimler ends up enjoying it, as he is the type that prefers doing a strict schedule. This tough help's when the ship comes under attack and he is the only one able to handle it at first and was able to show the Captain that everyone needs to do what they need to do at their own time! This however backfire's on him greatly when this becomes a rule in his name, (even given a plaque) that will be followed in the years to come!

Jack Ransom is given a mission to bring a gift for a planet in the name of piece. He is thrilled to be part of it, he is not thrilled though to have Mariner assign to his team. He doesn't condone her way of thinking and disrespectful towards Rank as he believes "Rank is everything". However he proved that he is ready to fight for his team no matter the cost, even Mariner (So much that he would stab her in the foot to do so). at the end of the episode Jack really impressed Mariner, and he was impressed by him, (But still send her to her favorite place, for d ignoring him about the sleeves) which ticked her off and threaten him as she was being taken away, which Jack considered "Pretty Hot"!

Captain Freeman really starts to get fed up over how the she is pass over in important mission due to the Cerritos reputation. When she learn about how the crew takes their time in completing their assign job (Thanks to Boimler) she gives all the crew mandated schedule's. This however put the entire crew on edge as they are practically working like hell to complete all the task with the time they have, and it becomes more difficult when the ship becomes under attack. She learn (Thanks to Boimler again) that the crew needs to have their own time so they can do their jobs the right way.

There was a lot of good action and battles in this episode. Plus a good reference to Captain Kirk! It also shows that too much work with no break, will cause serious problems in doing the job and how workers need their breaks in order to clear their mind and recharge their bodies, cause that will lead to great work being done!

The Random opening of this episode was how different types of Music can affect the ship!

My Rating for Star Trek: Lower Decks - Episode 3 is.... (Funny)

      Captain's Log - Stardate, 8/27/2020: Moist Vessel
The Cerritos Crew is assisting another ship in the transporting of an old terraforming vessel, that is abandoned! During which Captain Freeman devises a new way to have Mariner reassign. Meanwhile D'Vana tries to help a crewmate achieve enlightenment after messing up his ceremony!

Mariner faces tough challenges, first getting assign the most horrible jobs on the ship (which she found a way to have fun doing them), then face her worst fear... getting a promotion and joining Senior Officer's, then when the ship came under crisis she had to face another tough challenge... working along side her mother. However Mariner proves again that she is good at what she does when their I a situation. She really impressed her Mother/Captain, when she helped save the Cerritos and the other crew, using the knowledge she gained from her Mother's briefing! However when she hears that she might be staying as a Senior Officer still, she manages to find the opportunity to go back to where she belongs.

D'Vana has her own issues on the Cerritos. After messing up an ascension for a crewmember, she stop's at nothing to make it right! She studies all types of enlightenment's and gather spiritual objects and insects, all to help him ascend. However we find that nothing works and Crewmember expresses that he doesn't want her help and to stay away from him. This only wants to help him more, cause for her, it's not about helping him Ascend, she just wants him to like her, cause she cannot stand someone not liking her. This helps him understand her a bit, also help's save each other during a crisis. By the end of the episode, the two grew a strong friendship, and surviving a life threatening crisis blossom into love... that was short lived, as the Crewmember ascended, but the process was not what to be expected. This however showed D'Vana that she does not need to care if other's like her. This however change, when she found out that their are other's and demands to know!

Captain Freeman devises a new plan to get rid of Mariner, as she cannot stand to have her insubordinate's on her ship. Her first plan (Originally Jack's) is to give Mariner assignments that are the worst possible, this proves worthless, as Mariner devises ways to enjoy her jobs. She then thinks of a new plan to use what Mariner hates most, getting promoted to upper deck! Her plan starts to take affect, and she's ready to "help" Mariner, if she want to transfer off the Cerritos. But when the ship came under crisis, she began to get impressed by Mariner's Action and character. This however soon change when Mariner embarrassed her in front of High Command!

Boimler was facing his worst nightmare in this episode! Mariner got the promotion he always wanted. He could not fathom the reality of it all, as he was always following by the book and Mariner tore up that book and did her own thing. This makes him think in order to move up, he needs to be like Mariner, as her way is what higher up's are looking for! this however backfire badly, with his coffee and Jack's waist!

This episode really had it's moments. We see the tension between Captain Freeman and Mariner (Still no idea on what they're beef towards each other is really about!), but we see that they both do care for one another as well. We get to see some Spiritual in this episode, though it takes a different turn when one gain enlightenment! A big reference that I saw was the One person think's of a good idea and they're superior takes it and claims it as it's own and the other person congratulates their them!

My Rating for Star Trek: Lower Deck - Episode 4 is... (Hilarious)

     Captain's Log - Stardate, 9/3/2020: Cupid's Arrant Arrow
The Cerritos helps in dealing with a Moon that is shattering, that will plummet to the planet that it orbits. During which Boimler get to spend time with his "Girlfriend", which leaves Mariner suspicious. Meanwhile Sam and D'Vana, get to explore and help out the ship that the Cerritos is assisting!

Brad had a lot of Mix Emotions in his episode. He as Happy and Excited to get to spend time with his Girl, that he has known for a month. But also feel worried, anxious, and nervous, when she has to work along side a much more handsomer, muscular man (Whom his girlfriend has history with). This leads him to make a fool of himself of course, while also defending himself from Mariner, who question his relationship with this girl. It's all just like there was a "Bug" in the back of his head! In the end though things worked out for him semi-well, he was right that his Girlfriend did like him for him, but, she was a girl more focus on the work!

Becket went a little crazy in this episode. She thought it was jus gonna be a amusing day, meeting Brad's "Girlfriend"! However thing started to flip upside down, when she finally met her and the two embrace and Becket had to watch! After learning more about Brad's Girlfriend and how perfect she was, Becket grew suspicious that she was not who she said she was. This was due to a past event in Beckets life, when she was friends with this other Perfect Couple, that ended very badly! Her suspicion's started to consume her, went a little nuts, especially when she tried to show Brad, that his girlfriend had a tail. Her hunch however started to bore fruit, but had the wrong suspect. This lead to an awkward situation with Brad and a fight against his girlfriend. By the end though she found a new best friend, for her and was still their to help Brad, when he needed it!

Sam and D'Vana had their own adventure, while visiting another ship. They get to help out the ship, and use latest equipment. Upon which a competitive contest started to brew between the two, however their reward for the winner had a little more then they expected. This leads them to conflict with the one who has an ulterior motive, that lead to a kind of stand off, and Sam getting shot twice! However all things work out and both Sam and D'Vana realize that the Cerritos is their home, cause of they're friends, but not without grabbing a souvenir or two or twenty from the other ship!

This episode contained many references of "Next Generation", including a teddy bear with a visor. We also get to see Mariner in her younger days in Star Fleet, with much poofier hair. Also we get a look as sometime, being on a Ship that has great responsibility can put on a lot of stress on the crew! We also see unique negotiation tactics, when having to deal with protestors.

This episode contained no random opening scene!

My Rating for Star Trek: Lower Deck - Episode 5 is... (Hilarious)

     Captain's Log - Stardate, 9/10/2020: Terminal Provocation
While in a Stand-Off with a against a Scavenger Ship. Brad and Becket have to help a fellow Lower Deck crewmember, which gets them into more trouble then they thought. Meanwhile Sam helps, D'Vana with some training in the Hollo Deck, however things start to get life threatening when it starts to fritz!

Things went pretty well for Brad in this episode. He didn't mess up in the way that he does and he and Mariner had great time spending time with each other, and working together, to solve a problem. In fact the one who cause the mess and continues to cause the mess is, Brad's friend from the academy, Fletcher. Brad continues to show loyalty to his crewmates, but also his friends, as he first tries to help Fletcher, when he says he was attack, but when Brad discover's the truth, he still tries to help him find out a solution in Fletcher's problem, but when Fletcher's solution causes more harm and good, Brad and Becketts bind him so he doesn't get in the way. At the end he still, had Fletcher's back, even if it means given him the promotion he always wanted. Brad and Beckett got closer in this episode, not fighting against each other due to their different views, but work together and find it nice. Fletcher's mistakes, makes Brad appreciate, Beckett more, cause, even if she breaks the rules, it's all to help her fellow Star Fleet! This however backfire's on him, when Beckett took something of the Captain's, that could lead to Brad in trouble!

Beckett had a different change of paste in this episode. Instead of solving Brad's mess, she's helping in solving the mess of his friend Fletcher. She in implied to do this, as Fletcher covered for both her and Brad, so they can attend a party. However when they return and saw Fletcher in trouble, her belief in Lower Decks standing by each other, especially when Fletcher had her back, when she got into a situation with T'Ana. However as she helps Fletcher and later discovers the truth and Fletcher, causing more trouble, Beckett finds, that she cannot stand Fletcher and that there are some Crewmembers in the Lower Deck, you shouldn't stick up for. While though helping Fletcher, she find it nice in working along side Brad and not at each other's throats and appreciated Brad's complement when, he said Star Fleet is better with her and that he would want Becket by his side, then anyone else!

Sam tries to help D'Vana, when she tells him that she did not pass in walking. However his true reason in helping her is not just because, she is his friend, but he wants to impress D'Vana, cause he finds her "cute". So he brings her to the Hollo Deck, for training, in this new program he design, with a training guide (who has a familiar voice). We see Sam frustrated, when he's program doesn't work, the way it does and fearing that D'Vana will not be impressed. This however turns sideways, when the program starts to fritz and his Son (The training guide) starts tries to kill him. We see Sam, being a protector, as he tries everything he can to protect D'Vana, even face his creation. We also see Sam's caring side more, we he felt regret on how he treated the training guide and tried to apologize, this however prove ineffective, leaving him to end this once and for all!

D'Vana continues to be excited in being part of the Cerritos, when the possibility of exploring the wreckage of an old Star Fleet Ship. However her excitement, turns to fear when, the the thought of having to space walk, which makes her having to reveal her greatest shame! However, Sam offers to help, which she feels grateful for, but when things turn life threatening for her and Sam. When she learns, the real reason why Sam wanted to help her, D'Vana assured Sam, that she has always admired, in what Sam does!

Today's episode, had some pretty gruesome moments, particularly in the Hollo Deck. The episode also contained new insight, of some of the Main Deck Crew, including T'Ana and Shaxs. The episode also had guest star. Jack McBrayer, who played the Training Guide called Badgey. Jack McBrayer, character, was a happy go lucky character (which he usually plays), but when the Hollo Deck goes, fritz, his character is still happy, but more in the Killer Maniac style! The episode, contained a lot of funny, action, friendship and romantic moments!

Todays episode had a opening scene, which introduce Fletcher and had the Lower Decks crew, comparing what the Warp Speed sounded like. This however turns bad, especially for Brad, when Jack Ransom saw them and misunderstood what they were doing!

My Rating of Star Trek: Lower Deck - Episode 6 is... (Hilarious)

Stardate - Captain's Log, 9/18/2020: Much Ado About Boimler
While the Captain Freeman and her First Officer and Chief of Security are on a mission. During which, the Cerritos will be in command of another Captain, who is also a old friend of Mariner. Meanwhile Boimler gets himself into a Medical situation and D'Vana get to spend time with a new Companion.

Mariner has some mix feelings in this episode, one she is happy to see her old friend and classmate from the academy, Amina, cause they always got into a tone of mischief together, however her excitement turns into worried, when she sees her friend as a respectful Captain, who focuses on the Job and wants Mariner as her first officer. Mariner agrees, but soon starts to act like a complete fool, messing up, not having the proper equipment and telling stories about  her and Amina mischief to her team, stories that don't paint Amina as a proper Officer of Star Fleet. However, when a situation on a mission turns critical, Mariner immediately drops her ruse and get's serious, this leads to a heated discussion between her and Amina and they both express their views on how they have changed. But they still worked together and helped save lives. Amina still expresses how she wants Marnier to join her, but Mariner declines, saying that she is still figuring herself out and the Cerritos is the best place for her to dot it. The two still remain good friends at the end, and Mariner still respects Amina, even more after tossing Ransom!

Boimler get's himself into another situation in his efforts to impress and move up in the ranks. As he is excited to meets the temporary Captain to will take over the Cerritos, he tries to do whatever he can to show his proficiency. This leads him to help Sam in his latest test to speed up the teleportation device and gets him to become blue and transient, as the device still has a few kinks. As Boimler tries to continue to do his work, he becomes to much of a annoyance, because of the sound he was emitting which was very loud and then gets him into sickbay. While there, T'Ana was able to stop the noise at least, but he was still Transient Blue and this leads him to get a ticket to D-14 division which specializes in freaky medical problems, along with D'Vana and her "Dog". On the D-14 ship, Boimler meets a variety of Star Fleet officer who have strange and freaky medical issue, as they make their way to the Farm, which is this beautiful place, for relaxation. But when he is told, that their is no farm and that they have just been discarded, this leads to him being part of a coup, that the others are planning, which leaves him to nark on them. But by the end they realize the the Farm is real and see how beautiful and peaceful it is and perfect for recovery. Boimler is excited to stay as well as get to know the staff, but doesn't has his problem wore off and went back to normal, which surprised Sam.

D'Vana get to know her new companion a "Dog" that she made. However through the episode D'Vana sees that she had made a plain ordinary "dog", but to the other's, they have notice that her "dog" has certain abilities that are not normal. This leads her and her "dog" to D-14 ship, along with Boimler. Upon meeting the rest of the patient, she remarks that her "dog" is nothing like them and that her "dog" is normal, still oblivious to what her "dog" actually is. When they arrive at the Farm, she realizes that she must say goodbye, but her "dog" assures her (by talking) that she will be happy living on the farm and as they say goodbye, her "dog" flies into the air, with D'Vana waving goodbye happy for her "dog", this leaves Boimler shock as D'Vana already knew about her "dog's" ability, which she remark as "Duh, she's a dog", believing that's what dogs too, but she did not truly know that cause dog's don't exist on her planet. When she returns to the ship, D'Vana meets a real dog, that licks her and she does not like it.

The Show continues to have many references to past T.V. Series as well as other franchises. one of the biggest references that I saw was the Female Vulcan, who is kinda like a female version of Spock! Another References, was with D'Vana's "Dog" and her abilities, one was her tansformation ability that made her resemble from the Movie "The Thing"!

I think my favorite scene in the episode, was when the Ship that Mariner and Amina went to, to help, started to transform into this energy jellyfish!

Todays, episode open, with D'Vana introducing her "Dog" to her friends, who are tired, after a long hards day of work, and they're surprise, when her "dog" exhibits abilities not like a dog, but Marnier only caring if it becomes too big of a problem that truly requires her.

My Rating for Star Trek: Lower Decks, Episode 7 is... (Funny)

     Captain's Log - Stardate, 9/24/2020: Veritas
The Lower Decks, are on trial for defending the Upper Decks. The each must tell of their interaction with the Upper Deck, but their stories end up getting even them into trouble!

In this episode, the Lower Decker's are brought to a Prison (A Dungeon in Sam's opinion and would be worse in Boimler opinion), that soon rises up and they are taken to what appear to be a Trial Room and they see the the Bridge crew in the air suspended by a beam. Each of the Lower Decker's must tell the events they witness of a mission that the Crew of the Cerritos was a part of, for the Bridge Crew's Defense!

Beckett is the first to point out that she and her friends are in a court room and that their Commanders are on trial! Beckett is the first to speak, however she has no idea what to speak about whether it is specific to the trial, so she just starts off with her day, working with her friends. When she learns that there is a red alert going on, she and Boimler head to the bridge! Boimler is freaking out, So Beckett, tells him what he needs to do (as usual), so they won't get caught being late and kicked off the ship and sent back to earth! On the bridge, Boimler makes a fool of himself, while Beckett remains cool as the Cerritos is engaged with another ship, that is until she misinterpreted what her Captain wanted to do, as the Captain wanted to invite the crew of the other ship over, Beckett thought she wanted her to blast them! Beckett's story displeases the court and lands her floating over a tank of eels!

Sam is the next to speak and when ask, he was fully prepared to speak about any day they court wished to know, thanks to his cybernetic implants, but when he was about the date they wanted, he was hesitant, due to some circumstances. As Sam finally begins to talk, he start off talking about fixing machines, until he was confronted by the Head of Engineering and Security. They wanted him to be part of a mission they were going on, but needed him to have a update on certain Romulan equipment, which Sam wasn't excited for as updating causes blackouts! Upon updating Sam begins to blackout,  but his Cybernetics take over and Sam starts waking up in certain situation, first on a Vulcan transport, then a Museum, then in space on top of a ship known as the "Bird of Prey", then at a Gorn wedding, being attacked by Gorn! This however is not what the court wanted to hear, as they wanted better details, but Sam could not deliver and this got him hovering over the Tank of eels next!

D'Vana was next to speak, when she tried to defend Sam! Though through both Beckett and Sam speaking, D'Vana shown that she knew a bit more of what was going on and what the court needed to know. When she spoke, she started off, with her announcing her new assignment, that she is thrilled for, cleaning the Conference room (which makes Beckett jealous). When she arrived, she started to work, that when Ransom and a team he assembled arrived, upon seeing D'Vana he immediately mistaken her for someone else (who went by the codename "Cleaner") for a top secret Black-Ops Mission. When on mission on the "Beard of Prey" D'Vana tried to explain the misunderstanding, but there were interruption. Then when Ransom and the others went to extract the package, D'Vana was to stay behind, and when they return with Romulans coming after them, they expected D'Vana to do what the "Cleaner" does, which she does not know, so she just immediately start Kicking Ass (upon which Ransom's team member points out that D'Vana was suppose to beam them out!). Upon arriving back on the Cerritos, she did not need to come clean as the mission was a success and as the others left she went to cleaning the chairs excitedly. This however aggravates the court and D'Vana was next to be taken to the Eel Tank.

Boimler was next to speak, upon Beckett, Sam and D'Vana getting dunk in the eel tank and the court demanding answers, which Boimler just said that they don't know, cause there Commanders never tell them anything. His statement, manages to save the others from the eels. This then leads Boimler into an argument with the prosecutor, as he points how how they're Senior Officer's never tell the Lower Decks anything and how they mess up and get into terrible situations all the time. Boimler then finishes with a heartfelt speech on how Starfleet dive's head on into the unknown, and that sometimes, mistakes are gonna happen, but does what it can for good and to save lives, which impresses Beckett, Sam and D'Vana!

It is then revealed that they were not in a courtroom and that their Senior Officer were not on trial, but rather attending a Party in their Honor and they were floating in the air is because they were in the Beam of Celebration, for saving a Imperium Magistrate who was imprisoned by Romulans. This leads to a heated Argument between Beckett and the Magistrates, with her stating that he was dunking them in eels and him saying "You Ruined My Party!". Upon returning to the Cerritos the Lower Decks were commended for sticking up, for Starfleet, but they were kick out of the room, upon asking question on the whole ordeal of both the Trial/Party and the Mission the Senior Officer's were on.

Now here is a overall of how the mission took place, Started of with Captain Freeman, acquiring the map to the Neutral Zone, the Sam getting recruited to get "The Bird of Prey" Ship. The D'Vana, tagging along on the Black-Ops Mission, using the "Bird of Prey" for it's cloaking tech and heading to a Romulan Prison. At last returning to the Cerritos and the Senior Officers Freeing the Imperium Magistrate!

The episode contained many references to both the Original Star Trek Series and Next Generation, Referencing mistakes Captain Kirk and Picard made Picard with the Borg and Kirk with the Giant Spock. Another big Reference was a discussion Beckett and Boimler had is who was the biggest threat to Starfleet, Boimler saying Roga Danar from Next Generation and Beckett saying Khan from Wrath of Khan. Also the Gorn attacking in a rocky area! Another reference what the arrival of Q in a few scenes who came to challenge the crew of Cerritos!

My Rating for  Star Trek: Lower Decks Episode 8 is... (Hilarious)

      Captain's Log, Stardate-10/2/2020: Crisis Point
Mariner uses the Holodeck to pent out some stress caused by Captain Freeman! Meanwhile Boimler tries to prepare for an interview!

Mariner works on some personal issues that she has been having in this episode. After saving a race that was were being controlled like cattle, by a Evil Rat Warlord, she thought she was going to be congratulated, by her Captain/Mother, but instead she gets discipline again and her work, get undone and the Captain Freeman order's her to attend therapy (Though she would rather go to the brig). After a failed first session, with her therapist, Mariner hangs out at the Holodeck with Sam and D'Vana, until she gets an idea, after seeing Boimler's program on the holodeck. To work out some stress she converts Boimler's program into a Movie like theme, upon which they are the characters. In her movie, Mariners plays Vindicta a Space Warlord, with Sam and D'Vana part of her crew! As Vindicta, Mariner confronts the Captain of the Cerritos (also he mother), over  her views. Upon confronting the Cerritos crew, Mariner gets way into the role, this also leads to a argument with D'Vana. When facing the Captain Mariner, starts to let out more emotions of a Daughter confronting her Mother, but this prove failure, her Movie Captain Freeman only knew her as Vindicta and not as Mainer. At the end of her movie, Mariner starts to realize something when Vindicta faces off against her greatest foe Ensign Mariner! In the end Mariner was able to learn to appreciate being on the Cerritos, having her friends and realizing why her Mother is hard on her.

Boimler looks for another opportunity to move up in the ranks, as he prepares for an interview with the Captain. He starts up a program he created of the Cerritos, to be prepared, this however turns sideways, when Mariner takes over and turns his program into a movie, which he was not thrilled. Boimler played along in a few aspects over the course of the episode, but continued to gain the knowledge he needed for the interview. As he did not join up with Mariner the the other's he was replace, by a program similar to him, to be part of Mariner's Vindicta's Crew and upon seeing how the program acted, he agreed that it was well accurate (which disappointed him). Even after Mariner started attacking the Cerritos Brad still focus on getting the what he needed, no matter what, which prove somewhat helpful, as he was able to get info on how the Captain loves cookies, from Jack, before he was disintegrated by Marina. Though his efforts began to backfire on him, as an attempt to impress the captain backfired. At the end of the episode Boimler tried again to prepare for his interview, but learned a "secret", that cost him the interview!

D'Vana was at first excited to be part of the movie, even wanting to do the voices/sounds of the ship. However upon learning what her role was, which is a Orian Pirate, she starts to have mix feeling, but still continued playing along. it wasn't until they boarded the ship and watched as Mariner started vaporizing the crew, she questioned what she was doing. D'Vana became more upset when Mariner expected for her to act like a Orian Pirate, which she did not want to be. This leads her to leave the holodeck, telling Mariner "She is better than this" over what she is doing! At the end she was able to reconcile with Mariner, even understanding why she chose a Pirate role for D'Vana and the two went on to go see the Warp core!

Sam role was minimum in this episode. He took part in Mariner's Movie as one of her Vindicta crewmates, and when he learn he can do and say anything to anyone as a Hologram, he went to go meet his boss. Upon meeting him, Sam was prepare to say what he wanted which at first seemed negative, but it was to tell him of what a great job he's done. When the Holo ship started to fall apart, Sam immediately sprang into action and helped the crew, ignoring that he is a pirate in Mariner's movie. Sam at the end gain the recognition he's always wanted to hear from his boss, but still won't tell his real Boss!

The episode contained many References as the entire episode took a Cinematic role. A huge reference, was the scene of Boimler and the bridge crew coming up on the Cerritos ship as it is dock.

My Review on Star Trek: Lower Decks Episode 9 is... (Entertaining)

Captain's Log - Stardate 10/8/2020: No Small Parts
The Connection between Mariner and Captain Freeman is out and her life becomes upside down. Meanwhile The Cerritos Ship is about to take on it's biggest threat it's ever face!

Mariner initially thought her day would be like any other, visiting an alien world, breaking protocol, and helping the inhabitants, including the children! Then comes Boimler who initially though was coming to berate her as usual, but then becomes surprise when he starts helping her instead. Mariners initially, though her teaching were finally rubbing off on him, but instead Boimler revealed that he new that she was the Captain's Daughter and the Daughter of a Starfleet Admiral, which greatly took her by surprise. She tried to denied his reveal, but Boimler continue to state the facts, unaware to them both that they were being listen to by the rest of the crew, a fact that came to them, when they were beamed back up on the ship and the bridge crew starring at them, including a furious Captain! Mariner life complete change on the Cerritos, as everyone started to treat her as the Captain's Daughter, in hopes of getting favors, including the bridge crew. Mariner not wanting this treatment, as it interferer's with her lifestyle, figures out a way to go back to that, by applying for a promotion to another ship (One that Boimler was applying to as well). As Boimler pointed out that her attitude would not be the right person to be promoted, she starts to act like Boimler, uncuffing her sleeves, straightening her hair and acting as a respectful officer, even speedwalking like Boimler. Her plan, initially seems to be working, despite ticking Boimler off, which leads to a argument between the two, as to who is to blame for this. However when the Cerritos is attacks. When Mariner enters the bridge and sees her mother injured she becomes worry of her. Mariner then reverts back to her old self, as her Mother/Captain needs and orders her, to give her a way to face the enemy that the Cerritos faces. Mariner thinks of a plan, that will require the help of Same. Mariner soon leads the bridge crew out, as enemy forces started to beam in, but soon found themselves surrounded and unarmed, but not for long as Mariner reveals her arsenal of contraband of weapons she hid all over the ship. Mariner soon takes complete control of the ship, when her mother is too injured to give command. Her plan though was a success, but soon more enemy ships came and as all seemed lost, the U.S.S. Titan, Commanded by Captain Riker and Mainer's old friend and Mentor came to their rescue. Mariner had a heart to heart chat with her mother as they talk about the crew member that was lost, but then her mother soon berate Mariner on all her contraband weapons and other, and as Mariner points out again, why what she does is important, her mother agreed and proposed an idea for them to work together, to help those in need better, which Mariner was intrigued! Mariner returned to her friends and had a nice chat and new found respect for each other, however Mariner has now become frustrated with Boimler over his latest decision and now wants to hunt him down!

Boimler at the beginning of the episode looked like he was about to lecture Mariner again, about her breaking protocol, but instead helping Mariner as well, saying "he is tired of him always following the rules, while Mariner gets to do all the fun stuff", Mariner was instantly impressed and thought her teaching were taking affect on him, but Boimler pointed out that she was not teaching, just spreading chaos (though to her that was teaching), instead he told her that he knows that Mariner is the Captain's daughter, a secret that was revealed to the whole crew, as Boimler communicator was active, leading the Captain to beam them up, just as Boimler was making a joke of her and the Captain, though his humor, turned into fear as he saw the Captain starring at him with anger! Boimler pointed out on how everyone was treating Mariner different in hopes to getting favors with the Captain through Mariner, including him, as he wants her to submit a form to get a promotion to another ship, which gives Mariner the idea to go for the promotion herself, so she can go back to her old ways, thus she starts to act more like Boimler, which freaks him out. Boimler becomes upset with Mariner, over her trying to take his promotion, which leads to an argument between the two, as to whose fault over this situation this is. However that ended when the ship becomes under attack and he helps Mariner at the bridge. He points out on how the enemies ship is designed, and follows her when the enemies started to beam in and when they were surrounded he fought with a sword (Reference to episode 1). Boimler then express, on why he was upset over Mariner also applying to the promotion, as he wasn't ever expecting to get it, but Mariner would get it and he would miss her, as she is her best friend. Even after Mariner plan work and the enemy ship was destroyed, Boimler warned everyone that other's were approaching, and just as hope seemed lost the Cerritos was rescued, by the Titan, Captain by Riker and Mariner's old mentor which shocked Boimler. At the end of the episode, Boimler told Mariner, that he was glad that they followed they're gut and that Mariner was they're mentor and making him no longer care about promotion or rank, however that change, when he is given a promotion to the Titan, which he accepts, making Mariner furious and calling him nonstop, which he shrugs, as he joins his new friends at the Bridge!

Sam was exploring new features in his Cyber implants, which is behavior settings. Though he goes a little overboard and now tries to find his normal setting, but still does his work and also be there for D'Vana, when she comes to him for concern. When the ship is under attack Mariner went to him to try to create a virus to destroy the enemy ship, which leads him to enlist the help if his creation Badgey, though initially worried, if he remembers the events of their last encounter, which he does not, until Sam disables all of Badgey safety protocols, making him remember. Sam asked Badgey if he was capable to destroy the ship, which he can, but only if he is uploaded in the enemy ship itself. Sam reunites with the others and presents them with the virus and tells them what needs to be done, though the one that they pick to take part of this mission bails, that when Sam was able to revert back to his normal behavior, and put the Virus in his impact, taking the role of the mission himself, which D'Vana didn't want him to do. Sam and Shaxs who journey with him, took a shuttle and board the enemy ship. Sam uploaded the Virus, but Badgey plans to blow the ship with Sam in it, taking his revenge on him for snapping his neck. Sam unable to do anything, Shaxs saved him by ripping out his implant and putting him back into the shuttle, saving Sam, but sacrificing himself in the process. Sam wakes up next to D'Vana at his side, D'Vana was glad to see him up and he was glad to see her, but had no memory of who she is as the ripping of his Cybernetic Implant damage his memory.

D'Vana gets the honor of being a mentoring a new crewmember of the Cerritos, who is a robots named Peanut Hamper, which D'Vana loves. D'Vana showed concerns  to Sam on how Peanut will be able to do medical procedures, but when she saw Peanut doing tremendous work, her worries drifted away, but D'Vana soon felt a little left out in out T'Ana was impressed by her, but D'Vana was still proud of Peanut! When the ship came under attack and Sam talked about the plan to defeat the enemy, D'Vana recommended Peanut Hamper for the mission, believing she was perfect to accomplish this with the least risk! However Peanut Hamper refuse, as she did not want to take those risk, even after D'Vana pointed out that the Cerritos will be destroyed, Peanut will just beam herself out, which he did making D'Vana to say that her name is stupid! D'Vana then became concern as Sam was going to take on the mission himself and tried to stop him, but Shaxs took him away. D'Vana stayed at Sam's bedside until he woke up, which please her. Though she was happy, she discovered that Sam lost part of his memory and had no idea who she was, which he first looked sad, but was thrilled as she gets to work to be friends with him all over again and she joins him with Boimler and Mariner.

This episode also contains the first character to die, as Shaxs sacrifice himself to save Sam and was given a proper Starfleet Funeral (albeit with a not so respectful picture, though I suppose is, in his case)!

The episode contained many references from the Star Trek franchise and the series and also guest stars. They greatly reference to the original animated series, showing an image of the animated Enterprise crew! Among the guest stars was Jack McBrayer as he returned as Badgey. The episode also reference to the first episode of the series, Mariner being a mentor to Boimler, also Boimler becoming using a sword in battle (being the sword guy of the Cerritos). The biggest Guest star was Johnathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis as they reprise they're roles as William T. Riker and Deanna Troi in animated versions of their characters. The episode also made reference to the Purge Movies, as the Cerritos crew was dealing with a planet that purges.
