Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous - Review

The Series start off merely a few days before the events of the Jurassic World Movie! Six Teens, a Dino-Expert, a Social Media Star, a VIP, a Athlete, a Ranch Girl and a Conscious kid. Selected to be the first in a future event called Camp Cretaceous, where they will get to take part in behind the scene look in the Genetics lab, witness the hatching of dinosaurs, as well as take part in herding and other Dino Attraction. However each day leads to the event of Jurassic Worlds Fall! We see how the kids have to survive in order to find a way off the Island, facing Carnivorous Dinosaurs and also surviving against the Indominous Rex and also learning to trust one another! We also see personal issue that each of the Campers have, that some cause friction within the group, but see them coming together. A difference in this series from the movies is that the Campers will have a Dino Companion, who one of them calls Bumpy! Though the campers have many encounters with the Indominous Rex, they're true foe is a Carnotaurus Dinosaur they call "Toro"!
Darius Bowman (Played by. Paul-Mikél Williams), The Dino Expert, who got his ticket to take part in Camp Cretaceous, by being the first to beat a Jurassic Game, that seemed impossible to beat! Upon arriving at the island, Darius show's his overall excitement in seeing Dinosaurs, getting the Nickname Dino-Nerd. His enthusiasm to see Dinosaurs however get the best of him, when he tries to see more Dinosaurs up close, however the Dinosaurs were more of the carnivorous kind. As the series goes on, we see Darius reason to coming to Jurassic World, is for his Father, who was also a Dino-Nerd. They made a promise, to go see the Jurassic World Theme Park together, but sadly his father got sick and couldn't fulfill his promise to Darius. This leads, Darius to fulfill the promise for them both, his reason to get to Jurassic World, for not only himself, but for his Dad too! Among the other campers, Darius got close to Kenji and Brooklynn, through Kenji a sense of Brotherhood or Bruh and with Brooklynn, they first start off with differences with their view on their experience, but soon start to get close as they have something in common. As the event of the Movie begin to take place, and Darius comes across the Indominous Rex, he instantly knew that it was no dinosaur, even more when it saw it's kill on other Dinosaurs and that it was not normal. When the others return to camp and find it destroyed, because of the Indominous Rex, they begin to lose hope, but it Darius raise they're spirits up, that to a speech he received from his Dad. Darius became the leader of the group, as they made they're way into finding help and coming into conflict with the Indominous Rex. However thanks to Darius they were able to escape. Despite, set back and mistrust that came through the group, Darius continue to remind them, at what was important and that was getting out. When times, when Darius began to lose confidence, after the loss of one of his friends and thinking that they were trap, with a Carnotaurus coming after them, it was his friends, that reminded him, that it was not over and that there's still hope. Even at the end of the series, when the group failed to get their way off the Island, Darius assured them that this was not the end and that they will find they're way off the island and get back home, but in till, that time, they need to stick together in order to survive, which spark the other's to continue to follow him!
Brooklynn (Played by. Jenna Ortega), is a Social Media Star, who was chosen to take part in Camp Cretaceous to host on her Blog. Upon arriving on the Island, she instantly has her phone out and started recording. Through the beginning of the series, we learn that her blog is not doing so well and that her Brooklanders (What people who follow her blog are called) want something more exciting, this leads her to sneak around to find that excitement and do some dangers with the dinosaurs that she encounters. We see that she is not truly interested in Dinosaurs or the Camp Experience. We discover her reason is that she wants to be like and how hard it is too please people as she divulge her reasons to Darius and she gave her words of encouragement, when she finds that they have that in common! Upon making her video's she discovers that one of the other Campers, has had ulterior motives and this only proves her suspicion more when her phone went missing the next day. But before she could reveal suspicion the event of the Jurassic Park began and she and the other campers come face to face with the Indominous Rex. When the situation becomes dire, she corners her suspect into giving her phone, to only call for help, but this proves fatal. When she begins to lose hope as the others, she was perked up and find a way off the islander, this however does not stop her in proving to the others on who took her phone and when she did prove it, it only created more distrust towards the group. It was thanks to the words of Kenji (I know, she couldn't believe it either) that she decide to forgive and that what she was doing was not helping. She like the others followed Darius, cause he for both his experts in dinosaurs, but also his confidence and when he began to lose it, she helped remind him and even when they missed their chance to get off the Island, she did not lose faith and continued to stand by the others! (Brooklynn's last name has yet to be revealed)
Kenji Kon (Played by. Ryan Potter), The V.I.P. for both Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World, because his is a business associate to Mr. Masrani, this is what got him to be part of Camp Cretaceous. Kenji has that high and mighty personality and has no problem showing dominance and charm (especially towards the girls). Kenji is the first to get into a life threatening situation and bringing Darius with him, first with the Raptor, second with the Carnotaurus, who Kenji named him "Toro". through the beginning of the series that Kenji forms a type of Brotherhood with Darius, despite getting Darius into trouble and life threatening situation (twice). Upon meeting the rest he becomes attracted to Brooklynn, upon learning that she is a internet Star. With Ben, he think of him as a scrawny, always scared, shelter kid and doesn't understand what he is doing at Camp. Though Kenji acts High and Mighty, he has shown his compassionate side as well, as well as help give advice when it's needed. When the events of the movie begin to unfold, Kenji proclaims himself as leader, but in reality he knows that Darius is in charge and is the first to follow him, when the group is stranded in the jungle (Though his reason for putting Darius in Charge, was so that he can take the blame, should the worse to happen. However Darius informed him that the worst could happen to Kenji, which freaked him out!). As they make they're way to get off the island, Kenji share's more about his personal life and we see that he is alone, but he immediately shrugs it off, in saying how great his life is. Near the end, Kenji, started taking care of Bumpy, after what happen to Ben, even was the first when Bumpy got separated, but had no choice but to follow the other. Even after they missed they're chance to get off, he like the others didn't discourage, thanks to Darius, who he continued to follow!
Yasmina "Yaz" Fadoula (Played by. Kausar Mohammed), The Athlete, who was chosen to take part in Camp Cretaceous, because Jurassic World is a corporate sponsor of her's. Upon arriving we see, that Yaz, is shy in meeting new people and prefers to be alone. We also see her completive nature, whether it be getting top bunk or rounding up a Dinosaur. Despite being a loner and unsociable, she can be considerate for other's like when Darius told of what happen to his father. During the series she forms a friendship with Sammy, so much she showed her talent in drawing. However this friendship does not last, after Yaz learn that Sammy was lying and keeping secrets, this hurts her and she truly though she could trust Sammy and view her as a friend, but believes that it was all just a lie. This leads, to Yaz, turning her back to Sammy and not wanting to be around her, cause Yaz stood up for Sammy when Brooklynn accused her. Despite this, Yaz was still willing to do what she can to save everyone, even get injure in the process. However she still did not consider Sammy as a friend again, merely someone, she had to rely on to survive. Despite getting injured Yaz continues to keep moving and is ready to fight, when needed. Yaz, also knew that Darius was the one to follow, and she continues to follow him!
Sammy Gutierrez (Played by. Raini Rodriguez), The Ranch Girl, who was chosen because her family help's supply meat to Jurassic Park. Sammy has a fun buddy personality, and eager to make friends with everyone, she is also one of Brooklynn's Brooklanders. She is also the first to make friends with Yaz. However through the beginning of the series, we see Sammy sneaking around, and taking DNA samples of Dinosaurs, with now one suspecting, except for Brooklynn who caught her on her phone, upon which she denied to cover up what she has been doing, and even after the events of the Movie take place, she continues to hide denied it, with Yaz sticking up for her. When it is reveal that she did take the phone, she is left to reveal that she sent to Camp Cretaceous to spy and collect data for a rival company. Her reason for doing this is because her Family's Farm is in the Red, which lead them to borrow money from "Shady" people. The Rival Company offered money to her Family for their services. When Darius spoke on how irresponsible, they're sending they're daughter to spy, Sammy corrected him and said that she volunteer herself, that her Family would rather face their punishment, then to put their daughter in Danger! Sammy was able, to make amends with Brooklynn, but Yaz was still hurt be her deceit. Despite everything, she still consider everyone has friends, a thought, that the other's had trouble truly considering, but she tried to show them that they are friends, with everything they've been through. Like the other's she followed Darius, after missing their chance to get off the Island.
Ben Pincus (Played by. Sean Giambrone), was a sheltered, germophobic, and scrawny kids. He did not wish to take part in Camp Cretaceous, his mom put him in, so that he can get out of his shell and be brave. Throughout his time in camp, he was always worried and over cautious, applying way to much sanitizer, though not without have his reasons, which even got Yaz to put some on. Ben was scared upon interacting with dinosaurs, but that began to change when he witness the hatch of an Ankylosaur, who Ben named Bumpy. When the events of the movie took place and Ben witness the killing of the Indominous Rex, and then saw the destruction of the Camp, Ben was the first to lose hope and believe the he and the others were "dead", but like the others he got the confidence, thanks to Darius and followed him. It is then that he became reunited with Bumpy (who was a little bit bigger, than they last met), Ben wanted to bring her along, out of fear of what would happen to her, despite the other, especially Yaz, saying that bringing Bumpy would be a liability, Ben still brought her with them. Despite the set, back's that Bumpy cause, Ben continued to stand up for her, cause he didn't want to abandon her, like they were abandoned! Throughout the series, Ben remained at back, always needed rescuing or help, when it came to Bumpy, but when the situation was dire, he understood that he needed to act and despite his fears, he can muster up the Bravery he has inside him to save everyone! Ben's Fate remains uncertain, though we see how strong Ben and Bumpy bond is at the end of the series! (Though we don't know if Ben has survive or not, Ben is still technically the first Kid/Teen to have been killed in the Jurassic Park/World franchise)
Roxie and Dave were the Co-Head Councilors of Camp Cretaceous (in Dave's head, in reality Roxie was in charge). Roxie was the serious type and the most mature, while Dave was the fun loving type, but Dave will raise his voice, when the camper (Mainly Darius and Kenji) break the rules and put themselves in danger, and Roxie is shown that she is willing to break the rules if it's in order to save the kids! During the events of Jurassic World, Roxie and Dave were away to speak with their boss, cause of the few incidents that have happen with the campers, it was only until Roxie picked a lock (Learned how thanks to Brooklynn, becoming one of her Brooklanders in the process "No one tell Brooklynn") that they learn of what's been going on through the scream on the radio walkie-talkie's, that they immediately try to find the kids and get them to safety. After a few missed in catching up with the kids, they were able to deduce where they were heading next, which they quickly made they're way and fast before "Toro" spotted them. Upon arriving at the docks, where the boats leaving the island were, Roxie and Dave, tried to figure out if the kids made it, but with no clear answer, they were going to stay behind, however that was not going to happen. Roxie and Dave really care of about the kids, that they were willing to take the risk in staying behind on the island just to make sure if the kids were on the boat or not. Roxie and Dave are the kids best chance in rescue coming for them, as proven at the end of the series!
Bumpy the Ankylosaur companion of the group! The reason for being called Bumpy is because of the mismatch horns on her head, which Dr. Wu considers this a defect. Bumpy was born early and Ben was the first person he saw, which means Bumpy imprinted on Ben and why she was able to recognize him when they were reunited. Bumpy traveled with the Camper's as they made they're way out of the island, and despite some setbacks Bumpy cause, Bumpy was able to be greatly helpful, able to sense danger coming and give warning. After getting separated from the other's Bumpy bond with Ben was proven more as he was able to find him! Bumpy is the first Dino Companion in the Franchise and the second dinosaur to be given a name (First being Blue). Bumpy is also a great reference to Ian Malcolm words in "Life Finds A Way"!
Though the Camper's had many encounter's with the Indominous Rex, they're foe in the series was the Carnotaurus that Kenji called "Toro" (Making Toro the third Dinosaur with a name). The First encounter was with Darius and Kenji in his enclosure that leaves Toro with a Scar, second is with all the Camper's near the Mosasaurus lagoon, after being freed by the Indominous Rex. The Camper just barely manage to evade Toro. However Toro did not give up his pursuit and chase after him, but this time the Campers fought back, which lead Toro to be severely burned and after an intense stare down with Darius, Toro retreated!
Camp Cretaceous really did great in crossover with the movie! Upon the series leading to the events to Jurassic World, we saw many elements from the movie, The dead ankylosaur, the smashed gyro sphere's, ACU attacked, Mr. Masrani's Helicopter chase of the Indominous Rex and crash! The Series also contained many references from both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, the mentioning of Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler (from Jurassic Park) and the line Kenji said "Welcome to Jurassic World". Camp Cretaceous also adds some new elements to the film, with Saurolophus, who can glow, because of Dr. Wu adding to their genetics. It also did great work in incorporating the music of the Film, picking the right moments.
Camp Cretaceous was no kids show as the creator's pointed out. They show did contain graphic moments of people getting eaten (however limited on what they showed). The show also contained other intense scene's that are not in kids show's, such as Darius dad being sick and showing how his condition was, which truly made the Camp Cretaceous more mature for an animated series.
The show also installed that wonder and amazement, upon when the characters encountering Dinosaurs, also incorporating the beauty of the island itself, even despite being animated! The show also contains, that bond of friendship and family!
