The Mandalorian: Season 2
The Mandalorian: Season 2 - Review
By. Justin Azevedo
Synopsis: The Mandalorian (Played by. Pedro Pascal) continues to care and protect the Child and quest to return it to it's own kind. On his Journey The Mandalorian searches for other Mangalorean's to help him in his quest, while facing off against, Bandits, smugglers and the Remnants of the Empire Lead by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito)!
Season 2, Episode 1: The Marshal
Plot - The Mandalorian searches for other Mandalorian's to help him in his quest to find the Race of The Child. He learns of a Mandalorian, that leads him to return to Tatooine. Mando soon faces the challenge in helping a the people of a Town call Mos Pelgo and Tusken Raiders to kill a Krayt Dragon that has been terrorizing them all!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), shows more of his skills in the first episode of Season Two. We see his skills in hand to hand combat, his blaster skills and quick thinking. We also see his skills in communicating with the Tusken Raider, as well as negotiating, when he tries to form an alliance with the Tusken's and the people of Mos Pelgo. We see his leadership as he comes up with the plan and instructs everyone to set everything for when they face off against the Krayt Dragon. We also see him take to the air on his Jetpack, when he and the Marshal distracted the Krayt Dragon, to give the others a chance to get away. Mando's deep connection to the Ways and heritage of the Mandalorian's is shown, when he comes across the Marshal of Mos Pelgo, who at first thought was a Mandalorian, but given how he wears his armor created doubt, and his suspicion is proven true when the Marshal, removes his helmet, as removing it is against the creed. Mando soon became aggressive, demanding for the Marshal to remove the Armor and when he refuse, Mando was ready to draw his gun! Another continuous develop is Mando's concern with The Child's Safest, though has no problem, fighting and killing infront of him. Mando shows his concern, moving the child out of harms way, to fight and asking the Marshal to watch over The Child, while Mando faces the Krayt Dragon himself.
Cobb Vanth/The Marshal (Played by. Timothy Olyphant), Newest character added in the Mandalorian Series. He meets Mando, when he came to Mos Pelgo, in search of a Mandalorian that was in the area, but when he arrive, Mando learn that it was Cobb wearing Mandalorian Armor, he acquire from Jawa's. Cobb new how sacred the Armor was to a Mandalorian, and was concern when he met Mando, but became at ease, when he saw Mando with a Child, though his ease quickly went back into fear, when the Mandalorian was ready to kill him, whether The Child was present or not, to reclaim the Armor and Cobb realize he needed to draw his gun soon. However he propose a deal to Mando, when they saw the Krayt Dragon passing by. That he would give back the Armor, if Mando helped kill the Dragon, which he agreed. The two set out to find the Dragon's lair and Cobb revealed how he came got the Amor, how Mos Pelgo became what it was, a deserted place remove from the map.
The Child's role in the first episode of Season 2 was pretty much the same as in the last season. Merely watching and following Mando, though he knows when to take cover when Mando is about to enter a fight. The Child did not use any of his Force abilities in this episode!
We got too see more of Tatooine in this episode as well the relation between the settlers of Tatooine and the Tusken Raider and how they're is a huge grudge between the two! In the episode we see how both groups have a great hatred for one another and that hatred cannot be easily mended, even when they have to work together in facing the Krayt Dragon! Speaking of the Tusken Raiders, they have had a big role in this episode. First in helping Mando search for another Mandalorian, then helping him again in facing the Krayt Dragon, who has been terrorizing them. They spent much time in studying the best, learning of it's lair and how big it is and it's weaknesses. Though in past movies, we have seen the Tusken's to be savage and inhumane (Episode II: Attack of the Clones), however in this episode we see that they have they're own standards and honor and they will honor the deal that was made to the people of Mos Pelgo, if they work together!
The newest creature created was the Krayt Dragon on Tatooine. A creature that is capable to move within the dessert of Tatooine and has a great apatite and has been terrorizing both the people of Mos Pelgo and the Tusken Raider's! Another new creatures we see, are these red eye creatures in the beginning of the episode, who seem to not like bright lights!
The Show had many reference to the movies, one was the destruction of the 2nd Death Star and the Fall of the Empire. We also saw the after effect that had on planets on Tatooine, how with their destruction has left a power vacuum, that other's try to fill! The biggest reference was the Amor of Boba Fett, that made it return to the screen! It was being worn by Cobb Vanth, who came across it, when he was save by Jawa's, after escaping from his town that had been taking over. Cobb uses the Amor and pretended to be a Mandalorian to defeat the invader's of Mos Pelgo and scarring any other's who would threaten it!
The Biggest Guest Star was Temuera Morrison, who played Boba Fett. This confirm the long question, "Did Boba Fett Survive from the Sarlac Pitt?". It has always been, one of the biggest questions in the Star Wars Fanbase and now it has been confirm, at the near end of the Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 1, when we saw Boba Fett, watching as the Mandalorian rode of with his Amor. We also finally got to see Boba Fett without his Amor, showing his face, that has been Scarred! This episode also confirms the theory on how Boba Fett survived, thanks to his Armor that was made of Beskar, that protected him within the Sarlac's stomach, as we saw the same thing happen to Mando when he was devoured by the Krayt Dragon, but survived because of his Armor!
My Rating for The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 1 is... (Epic)
Season 2, Episode 10: The Passenger
Plot - After Tatooine prove to be a dead end in finding other Mandalorian's. Mando gains a new lead, but first he must transport someone to another planet, if he wants to get the information!
The episode takes place moments after the last episode, where Mando helped killed the Kray Dragon and claimed the Mandalorian Armor (Boba Fett's Armor) from Cobb Vanth. In the opening of the episode we learn that the Bounty on The Child is still in active when Bounty Hunter come for them!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), faces quite a few challenges in this episode. Despite facing off against some Bounty Hunter's that manage to catch him off guard he was able to take care of them, thanks to his Jetpack! Upon returning to Mos Eisley, he was able to get a new lead on another Mandalorian at another planet, but he first had to transport, the one who had the information off Tatooine and to the planet where the Mandalorian is. Here Mando is face with many hardships, the first is that he has to make the trip without Lightspeed, second he does not speak the language to his Passenger, and third is dealing with The Child, who has a hunger! Though he agrees to take the passenger, upon heading to they're destination, they are met with two Republic X-Wings, who came across them. Mando tries to talk his way out of the situation, as he is a Bounty Hunter and being Bounty Hunter is illegal in the Republics, but that fails when the X-Wing Pilots get info about a previous event that Mando's Ship was involved in. This forces Mando to fly away to a near by ice planet, leading to a chase. Mando manages to elude them, but in the process his ship got damage when it fell from the ice and into a cavern. It is then that Mando's Honor was tested when his Passenger, informed him of the risk if he does not get them to the designated planet in time and though Mando said it was impossible due to the ship's current stasis, he was reminded that he made a promise and a promise was important to a Mandalorian's Honor. This leads him to do what he can (though not too happy about it), though he tries to fix up the ship, but he stops when he learns that the passenger goes missing, and tracks the passenger down. It is then that they are face with the life forms inside the cavern and try to out run them, Mando protect the passenger and The Child, by blasting the life forms and using his quick thinking and explosions and gets them back to the ship. Though his efforts to get them to safety would be in vain when the ship becomes more damage, but they were saves thanks to the X-Wing Pilots who found them. Though Mando wonder what comes next, the Pilots decided to let Mando go, after helping capture some wanted fugitives! Mando then proceeded to fly off to continue to transport the Passenger to their destination.
The Child, gets into some mischievous in this episode. Upon meeting the Passenger and the cargo, contain eggs of his favorite meal (Frogs). At first, you think was just interested in the eggs cause of the life they contained, but soon realize that he was only interested cause they look delicious, which leads him to eat one of them, upon which Mando stopped him from eating more! This however did not stop The Child, even after the crash into the cavern, he continue to eat more. The Child's cravings makes him venture out and find more eggs, which he does find, but that leads to the awakening of some violent offspring and forcing Mando and the passenger to flee. After everything was over, and they prepared to take off, The Child manage to sneak into one more egg!
The Passenger a Female Anthropomorphic Frog, who needs passage off Tatooine to a planet so that her eggs will be hatch! Mando, agrees to take her, as her husband has information of a possible Mandalorian location. Though he is not too thrill on not being able use Hyperdrive as this would risk them being spotted and attacked by enemies, however the Passenger points out that, hyperdrive would damage the eggs. Her concern for her eggs greatly shown and we learn why, thanks to her technical knowledge in using a the Bounty Hunter Droid voice to commune to Mando and inform him of the situation. Though she is unaware that The Child has been sneakily eating her eggs. Her further concern is shown when the device was running low on heat and this leads her to find a heat source for her eggs and for herself, which she does when she found a hot spring inside the cavern. There seems to be more to this character as when they came under attack, she had a small hidden blaster!
Two X-Wing Pilots make their debut in this episode, when they came across Mando's ship the Razor Crest in space. This leads them1 to inform Mando of the regulation's in flying through this sector as it is Republic space. They begin to grow suspicious as, Mando tries to talk his way out, but all that prove worthless, when they learn of his ship involved in another incident (From Chapter. 6 - The Prisoner). this leads to a Starship chase on a Ice Planet, though Mando manages to lose them. at the end of the episode, they Pilots came to Mando's aid, when they came under attack. After some mention some of Mando crimes, they let him go, thanks to his assistance in capturing War Criminals and Bounty Hunters!
Amy Sedaris, returns again to the series, as Peli Motto and was the one who helped Mando in getting a New Lead on a possible Location of a Mandalorian, though not without him assisting her with a little compensation!
The Episode contained many References to the Original Movies and to the Star Wars Rebels, as well to it's past season. One was when the X-Wing's chase after the Razor Crest to the ice planet and when they flew with a Ice Trench (This referencing the Trench of the Death Star in A New Hope)! The reference from Rebels was when Mando and the Others face off against a legion of Spider, these spider's were of the same as the spider's the Krykna from Rebels on their first base on the Planet Alollon. However these Spider's had some different feature, so they must be a sub group of the species. The reference from Season one was the mention of the events of Chapter. 6, and the appearance and voice of the Bounty Hunter droid!
The Mandalorian made it's first reference to the MCU. The Reference is from the Ant-Man Film when Mando meets with Peli, who is playing against a Alien Giant Ant with glowing yellow eyes. I missed this reference at first, until I read about this reference on Comicbook.com on Facebook! I have to say, using a Alien Ant to reference the MCU was the best choice out of all of the possible references to use, as well as the best one to use with Am Sedaris!
My Rating on The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 1 is... (Awesome & Amazing)
Plot - Mando and his Passenger arrive at their destination and there Mando takes a voyage to find more Mandalorian's. On the way he is meet with unexpected allies!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal). Upon arriving on the planet, Mando ask the passenger and her mate, where he can find other Mandalorian's. His search takes him and the child to take a voyage through the seas, as a group of fishermen, knew of a place that Mandalorian's were. However Mando discovered that it was a trapped, to take his Beskar Armor, fortunately he was rescued by Mandalorian's among them was Bo Katan! Mando was grateful, for their help, and told them of his quest, but he soon became agitated when Bo-Katan and her group removed their helmets. this leads him to believe that they are not real Mandalorian's, but Bo-Katan informs him of the group that Mando is with and that they're ways are of the ancient ways! This leads Mando to leave the group. only to be save by them again, when he is ambushed, Mando then agrees to hear them out. He talks to them about his quest, that he is in search of the Jedi, so that he may place the Child in their hands. Bo-Katan agreed to give them this information, if he would help them, which he does. Mando helps them in raiding a Imperial Cargo Ship, however Mando becomes displease, when Bo-Katan did not tell him the full purpose of the plan, but he still gave them his assistance. After helping taking the ship, he was offer a place in Bo-Katan's group, but refuse, as he has his own quest first. at the end he was given a new location, to get information on the Jedi and he and the Child moved on. Mando's Skills continue to be impressive, both in firing a blaster and planting charges. His courage was also shown when he took on a barrage of blaster fire, in order to take out enemy stormtrooper's. His connection to the Child, continues to be shown, when Child was in mortal danger, he immediately went to his rescue first, then to deal with they're betrayers. Mando also show, that he is able to understand what the Child and what he is thinking of!
Bo-Katan (Played by. Kathryn Ann "Katee" Sackoff), makes her live action debut and is the latest character in both the Clone Wars and Rebel Animated Series, to appear in the Live Action franchise. Bo-Katan came to Mando and the Child's aid, when they were tricked and betrayed, by a group of fisherman. Mando was thankful of their help, but upon seeing Bo-Katan and her group remove their helmets, this leads him to accuse them of not being real Mandalorian's. Bo-Katan assures him that they are, that she was born of Mandalore, that she hails from House Kryze, she then learns that Mando belongs to a group known as the Watch and that they split themselves off from the rest of Mandalore, however Mando cannot accept, "The Way" they follow, as there is only one Way of Mandalore and leaves them. However Bo-Katan, came to his rescue again, when he was ambush by the fishermen's relatives. Bo-Katan wanted to speak to Mando and he accepted, she learned of Mando's quest and offer her help, in exchange to help them raid a Imperial Cargo Ship, However, she soon began to change the deal that displease him, but accepted in the end. We then learn upon taking the bridge, that she is after Moff Gideon, so that she can reclaim the Dark Saber and use it to restore Mandalore, however her efforts on that part failed. After the mission, she offer Mando a place in her group, but refuse to continue with his own mission, this leads her to give him the name of Ahsoka Tano and where she is at, to aid Mando in his quest. Kathryn did a great job in portraying Bo-Katan in live action, since she did a great job portraying her in the animated series! She really express what kind of Character Bo-Katan was, not just through her voice, but through her action in the episode.
The Child's role in this episode was minimum, merely tagging along with Mando, getting into danger, then sitting back, while Mando took part in another mission. Though in this episode he did not try to eat more of the eggs (even though he no doubt wanted too), instead merely watch as life hatches and even interact with a newborn. Though we still seen how big the Child's appetite is.
Sasha Banks is another guest star who also portray a Mandalorian Warrior known as Koska Reeves, who appeared in the beginning of the episode and was the first to spot Mando upon is arrival! Koska Reeves is part of Bo-Katan's group and fight alongside her in her quest to restore Mandalore!
The Lady Frog, still had a minor role in the episode, upon arriving at the planet, she is reunited with her mate and after giving Mando the information he needed they went they're separate ways. She later appears, as Mando entrusted the Child with her and her mate, while he went on a Mission with the Mandalorian's, which they accepted (Though still did not know, that the Child had eaten some of their eggs and still desired to eat more.
Moff Gideon (Played by. Giancarlo Esposito), makes his brief return in this episode. Appearing as a hologram transmission, when his Cargo ship is attacked, when he learn that Mandalorian's are attacking and how far they had reach, he already knew that the ship was lost, and therefore, demanded the Captain to fulfil his duties for the Empire!
The Planet, that Mando and the Child visited greatly referenced to Mon Cala planet. As it was a Ocean Planet and was inhabited to by Mon Calamari and the Quarren.
This episode revealed a long question on Mando's Creed, how he is not to remove his helmet and never show his face to anyone and how that is "The Way" of Mandalore, given in past series, we have seen many Mandalorian's remove their helmets and shown they're face to many. Through Bo-Katan we learn Mando is part of a group known as the Watch, who follow and live by the Ancient Ways of Mandalorian and broke off from the rest of Mandalore, as they embraced a new way.
The Watch is the remnants of Death Watch that Pre Vizsla formed, with Bo Katan as his second in command (From Clone Wars). Death Watch goal was to overthrow, the current Monarchy of Mandalore which was Dutchess Satine ( Bo-Katan's sister), who tried to bring about a New Age of Mandalore. Death Watch however wanted to keep to the traditions of The Mandalorian and they're Warrior ways and believe Satine stood in the way of that so plotted against her. Death Watch disbanded after the death of Satine and the Rise of Maul's Reign over Mandalore. During the events that would lead to the Battle of Mandalore during the near end of the Clone Wars to the Rise of the Empire and the start of the Rebellion, Death Watch cut off from Mandalore itself, because of the Monarchy that came, and soon began to call itself "The Watch" and truly followed the Ancient Creed of the Mandalorian, because even back when it was Death Watch, they still removed their helmet, including it's leadership!
My Rating for The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 1 is... (Epic)
Season 2, Episode 4: The Siege
Plot - The Mandalorian returns to Nevarro for some assistance with old allies. He soon tags along on a Mission to destroy the remaining Imperial forces that are still on the planet!
The episode sees the return of Greef Karga (Played by. Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Played by. Gina Carano) and we see how they have change Nevarro for the better. The episode also contains many references to "A New Hope" as well as others. We also see the return of the Tie-Fighter with the retractable wing for landing. There are also guest cameo appearances from the last season and the current one. This episode also contain some humorous moments between Mando and the Child!
The opening scene of the episode was of Mando instructing The Child who was deep into the ship wiring, to place the red wire and the blue wire and putting them into their different outputs, from "red to blue" and "blue to red", only for the Child to shock itself!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), realizes that he and the Child would not be able to make it to Corvus with the ship's current state and decide that they need to head to Nevarro to enlist the help of old friends. As he lands on the planet he is met with Greef and Cara, who are excited to see him and also the Child. They take Mando and the Chile to town and he is amaze to see, how much as change, including upon seeing that they have constructed a school for children, where Greef wants to leave the child while he and Mando talk. Mando soon gain another surprise upon seeing Mythrol (The Bounty Mando Claimed in Chapter. 1) working for Greef. Mando is then enlisted for help by Greef and Cara in dealing with remaining Imperial's on a Base on the planet. Though hesitant, as he had his own mission, he decides to help as the job will take some time and they need Mando for this mission, so he accepts. Mando travels to the Imperial Base with Greef, Cara and Mythrol and is told the plan, as to break in and shut down the core reactor and let it be implode by lava from beneath the base. Upon arriving the group discover the the main door sealed, as they try to break through, Mando discovers another way, by jetpacking up top of the Base, which leads to a Storm Trooper plummeting to the ground and Mando activating the door elevator from their. When Mando reunited with the other's they discovered that the Base had more security then they though. They soon manage to sneak away inside the base and disable security camera's and then make their way to reactor core and disable it. As they make they're way out of the Base, they soon discover a room and discover that the Base is not for Military but is for Laboratory experiments, when they see strange figure in test tubes. It is then Mando discover's that Moff Gideon is still alive through a recording of Dr. Pershing. After being discover Mando breaks from the group and blast his way out of the Base, to get back to The Child, incase Moff Gideon show's up.
At the end of the episode, Mando comes to Greef, Cara and Mythrol onboard the fully repaired Razor Crest and blast the Tie-Fighter's after them. He destroyed the remaining Tie-Fighter, with a free fall spin maneuver. After destroying the Tie-Fighter, Mando said his farewell to the group, through the comms, as he needed to make haste in taking the Child to Corvus before Moff Gideon catches up to them. As Mando and The Child move on, they unaware that they're ship contains a tracking device in their ship.
Cara Dune (Played by. Gina Carano), makes her return in season 2, as the Marshal of Nevarro! She makes her appearance when taking on a group of Aqualish criminals. She takes them down and takes their loot that they stolen, as well as free the grey Ferret like creature. She is excited to see Mando and the Child again and she and Greef showed them the work they did on Nevarro after they're last encounter, including creating a school. She and Greef, then enlist Mando's help in taking down a Imperial Base on the Planet, which he accepts. Cara along with Mando, Greef and Mythrol, then travel to the base. Though upon arriving they are meat with the door to the elevator sealed shut, but thanks to Mando they manage to make they're way in. As they sneak into, she takes down a officer with a choke hold, while Mando deactivates the security camera's. Cara and the rest then make they're way to the reactor core, and stands guard while Mythrol shuts it down. After shutting down the reactor, they then make they're escape, but soon discovers a room, with test tubes containing experiments. Cara then tell the other's that the true purpose of this bas was for Scientific experiments not for Military, as well as learning that Moff Gideon survived. Cara supported Mando's reason for separating from the group, to head back to the child and told him to go by Jetpack. After Mando left, she lead the other's into getting out of the Base before it exploded, but found they're way out block by Storm Troopers that leads to a blaster fight! Cara then gets the idea to use the Mint Trexler Marauder Vehicle that was in the base, to make they're escape. They manage to get out of the base just as it blew. However as they made they're way out of the trench, they found they were being chase by Tie-Fighter's. Cara manage to out speed them for a time, but they were soon catching up, until Mando came to their rescue.
After the Base was destroyed and Mando and The Child took off, Cara was met with a X-Wing Republic Pilot, while she is feeding the Grey ferret that she rescued from before (Same Pilot from Chapter. 10). The Pilot talked about how skillful she was and that she was from Alderaan, and then proceeded to tell her that something is going on in this sector and that the Republic could use her help. Cara remained silent and watch as the Pilot left a Republic Badge next to her and left. She then just starred at the Badge as her final scene ended!
Gina Carano showed off her skills in this episode, when she played as Cara Dun in facing the Aqualish Criminals, using her MMA fighting style, and WWE take down moves!
Greef Karga (Played by. Carl Weathers) also makes his return in Season 2. He appears, as Mando lands on Nevarro, he like Cara are able see that his ship needs repairs and has his best mechanics working on it, free of charge. He then extends his excite in seeing the Child again and carries him, as he show the Child and Mando around town to see how much has change. He express how his role is merely dealing with the paperwork in maintaining the town and praises Cara to keeping order and dealing with the rift raft who cause trouble. He then takes Mando to see the School, he and Cara started where he places the Child, while he takes Mando to talk about something urgent. Greef then takes Mando to his office, where he sees Mythrol working for Greef, it is then Greef says that Mythrol always worked for him, until Mythrol took of with some Credits, thus leading to his Bounty collected by Mando. Greef allows Mythrol to work of his debts, however through the episode Greef expresses harsh treatment towards Mythrol, if he does not do what he is told, also has no problem putting him in dangerous situation, but Greef does offer's to cut some years off his sentence if Mythrol does the job. Greef tells Mando of the Mission he want Mando to be a part of with him, Cara and Mythrol, which is to destroy an Imperial Base. Mando at first is hesitant and does not, have time to help as he has his own mission, but Greef tells him that the repairs on his ship will take time and also expresses his desire in Nevarro's future once the rid of what remains of the Empire and Mando agrees. Greef and the other's then head to the base and thanks to Mando were able to sneak in and after disabling the security, they manage to reach the Reactor Core and Greef order Mythrol to deactivate it, while he Mando and Cara stand guard! After the Reactor is shut down, they then proceed to make their escape, where they discover the Lab room and see the experiments which stunned Greef in horror, as he though the base was just a weapons depo. Greef fight along with Cara and Mythrol after Mando leaves to head back to the Child and they fight off against Storm Troopers. They manage to escape the base thanks to Cara who hijack a vehicle on the base. As the base explodes, they make they're way back, however they discover that they are being chance by Tie-Fighter, so while Cara drives the vehicle, Greef man's the main gun. He first had trouble taking aim at the Tie's, but manages to take one down, however the gun is destroyed when the Tie-Fighter crash into the vehicle. The group however was rescued from the remaining Tie-Fighter's by Mando in the Razor Crest fully repaired. After Mando. Greef offer Mando a drink for their victory, but Mando refuse, as he needed to keep moving which Greef understood and wish them both well!
After Mando left, Greef is visited by a Republic Pilot who is informed of the events of what transpired and questioned Greef about the Razor Crest, however Greef denied any knowledge about that and bluffs that the the ship was never here.
The Child role was small in this episode, he at first tried to help Mando in repairing the ship. We see that The Child is able to understand a bit, when Mando was trying to tell him which wires he needed to attach, but not completely which lead to the child to receive a small shock. He is then sitting next to Mando, having soup, where The Child tried to see Mando's face when he lifted it up a bit to drink. The Child is then embrace by Greef who was excited to see him and carried by him around town, where Greef places him at a school to stay at while Mando talks with Greef and Cara. At the school, The Child notices a student eating Blue Cookies, which The Child wanted to try one, but the student refused, so The Child then used the Force the snatch them.
The Child makes his final appearance back on the Razor Crest after being retrieved by Mando and was happy when Mando was flying fast when coming to the aid to Cara, Greef and Mythrol against the Tie-Fighter's. After Mando destroyed the last Tie-Fighter with a spinning maneuver, as Mando ask The Child how the experience was, The Child express by vomiting blue puke from the cookies!
Mythrol (Played by. Horatio Sanz) is a returning character who appeared in the 1st episode of the first season. He appears working for Greef, who was the one who placed his Bounty in the first place after steeling from him. Greef has allow Mythrol to work off his sentence. Upon meeting Mando again, Mythrol express his fear, when he release steam from his gills and when Mando says if Mythrol runs off again to let him know, to which he replied that he has no attention to do that as he does not want to be put in Carbonite, as he has not fully recover from the last time. Mythrol tags along with the team on the mission, which he constantly complains and protest to which the other's do not care for, however he accepts doing any task he is given when the offer to cut of his sentence is given. He was the one who deactivate the Reactor Core and then makes his escape with the other, fighting off troopers, then boarding the vehicle that Cara snatched and escape the base. He then saw as Mando came to their rescue against the Tie-Fighter's!
Moff Gideon (Played by. Giancarlo Esposito), makes his physical appearance in the last scene of the episode (appearing only as a hologram in Chapter. 11). He appears when one of his High Rank Officer's informs him that, one of they're spies, planted a Tracking Device on the Razor Crest, to which he ask if the Mandalorian still had the Asset "The Child", to which she replied yes. Moff Gideon was please to hear this as he turn around to look as his scientist work on which seem to be a group of Robotic Black Storm Troopers.
Dr. Pershing (Played by. Omid Abtahi) makes his return in the 2nd Season, briefly as a Hologram message to Moff Gideon. His message was discovered by Mando and his team, to which Dr. Pershing talks about the experiment's he has be conducting and as to why they need The Child. His message also informs Mando that Moff Gideon is still alive and still after The Child!
Captain Carson Teva (Played by. Paul Sun-Hyung), makes his return again after his last appearance in Chapter. 10 in saving Mando from the Spiders. He arrives at Nevarro after the events with the Imperial Base and the Razor Crest involvement. He first question's Greef, but he denies any such involvement. Teva then speaks with Cara and expresses how good of a Soldier she is, also that she is from Alderaan and that he once served Alderaan. He then goes on too tell her that something is going on in the Outer Rim, something big and that he needs the support of the people who live in it. He then leaves after leaving a Republic Badge next to her.
The episode contained many references greatly from the first Star Wars Movie "A New Hope". One Reference was when the Tie-Fighter's were chasing after the Vehicle the group it's in through a trench (like how in A New Hope on the Death Star), then when Mythrol went to shut down the Reactor Core (Similar as to when Obi-Wan shut down the Tractor Beam on the Death Star in A New Hop). Another reference was the Protocol Droid that was teaching the students in the school and how it's body and face modeled C-3PO. The old Mandalorian hideout also appeared in the episode, with the Symbol of Death Watch gone and now being use by a Group of Aqualish Criminals. Another Reference was the opening when Mando tried to instruct the wires that he needed to place, but with no result (A continuous gag that has been use in many Movies and T.V. Shows)!
The episode also talked about the structure of the Galaxy when, The Outer Rim, The Core Planets and also other systems.
Through the episode we learn a bit more as to why Moff Gideon desire's the Child. Through the Holo message of Dr. Pershing, we learn that he has been experimenting on a subject, but with no promising results, but that the Child's blood is the key into completing the project. We still do not know what this Experiment is and what or who the subject is as well.
My personal guess is that the Child's blood is the Key into creating Snoke, or to help bring the Emperor back to life!?
At the End of the episode we see that Moff Gideon, has these mysterious Black Storm Troopers!
This episode contained a lot of Action, Suspense, Humor and Mystery. With blaster firing against storm troopers, using stealth to infiltrate a base, intense combat, Tie-Fighter chase and ship vs ship battle! As well as mystery being revealed and new one's rising!
My Rating on The Mandalorian: Season 2, Episode 4 is... (Epic)
Season 2, Episode 5 - The Jedi
Plot - The Mandalorian finally reaches Corvus, to search for Ahsoka Tano, but soon finds himself, getting into a conflict with the Magistrate of the Planet!
The Scene opens with the Live Action Debut of Ahsoka Tano (Played by. Rosario Dawson), as she chases down troopers and comes face to face with the Magistrate (Played by. Diana Lee Inosanto). After defeating her troops Ahsoka wanted something from the Magistrate (What that is, was unknown) and promise to return. The Magistrate unafraid of Ahsoka, show's off her power and influence in the town she governs by punishing a citizens!
The opening scene was the first time we got to see Lightsaber's in real action (besides having a small part, with the DarkSaber at the end of Season 1) and as well as the use of the force and how a Jedi wields it.
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), arrives at Corvus. Upon landing, he survey's the planet and finds it not as he expected it to be. Mando and the Child, then proceeded on, where they discover the town. When being seeing, by it's security and head officer, Mando was let in. As Mando enter the town with the Child, he looked at it's condition and when he went to gain information, but the locals distant avoided him, leaving him! Mando was soon escorted to meet the Magistrate, where he also sees the prisoners, being held in these body shape electric cage, but did not act! Upon meeting the Magistrate he was offered a bounty mission, by the Magistrate to kills the very Jedi he was searching, though Mando try to avoid this bounty, he soon accepted, when he was shown, by the Magistrate her spear which was made of "Pure Beskar"(though planning to use this to meet with Ahsoka Tano). Upon traveling through the woods, Mando is soon face with Ahsoka who surprise attacked him, when he was surveying. The Two battled, but Ahsoka ceased her attack, when Mando mention "Bo Katan" sent her to meet Ahsoka. Mando then went to explain about his quest in searching for the Jedi, to which she ask if his reason was because of The Child! Upon The Child and Ahsoka's meeting, Mando learns about about the Child past from Ahsoka, as well as learning the Child's name, he also learn that the Child's powers is what is known as the Force. Mando then proceed to tell Ahsoka of his mission, in bringing the Child to the Jedi! Ahsoka first wanted to test the Child's abilities before making a decision. When testing the Child, Mando sees Ahsoka using the Force, but watches as the Child refuses to show his ability, this leads Ahsoka to have Mando test his ability, but after his first attempt failed, Mando then use his connection to the Child, knowing his interest, he uses the metal ball sphere to have the Child use the Force and it succeeds! However Ahsoka the states that she cannot train the Child, which confuses Mando, as he when he states that he does have the ability to use the force still. Ahsoka explains that the Child's attachment to Mando is a dangerous thing and that it would be best to let his connection to the Force fade. Mando still, thinking that having the Child be place and train by the Jedi will be best and make a deal with Ahsoka, after learning that she is heading to town, telling her that the Magistrate sent him to kill her. He then, tells Ahsoka he will help her defeat the Magistrate in return, training the Child. The two the hatch a plan, in making the Magistrate believe that Ahsoka vanquished Mando, so then he can slip in, while Ahsoka distracts the Magistrate's forces, so that he can free the prisoners, which succeeds. After Mando frees the prisoners, he is then face with the Magistrate's Chief Officer. The two the starred down at each other and waiting to see who would make the first move, however the officer did not act until he knew of the outcome of the duel between Ahsoka and the Magistrate. Upon hearing the Duel ending and Ahsoka's victory, the Officer surrender, but as he was lowering his main blaster, he try to quick draw his second gun to shoot Mando, only for him to quick draw his blaster faster and killed the Officer. After the defeat of the Magistrate, Mando and Ahsoka watch as the town celebrate, he is then presented by the Beskar spear, but he refuses to accept it at first, as he did not truly earn it, but then accepts when Ahsoka says that it belongs in the hands of a Mandalorian. Mando then went to go retrieve the Child, so that he can be train by Ahsoka. However Ahsoka still refuse to train the Child, which Mando protest and is then given a new location of a temple, that could help the Child finding the right Master to train him. Mando then took the Child back to his ship and proceed to their next designation!
Through the episode Mando, showed how the Child has impacted in him. When helping Ahsoka, test the Child, he used their history through their journey, to help motivate the Child and upon and the Child succeeding, Mando showed how proud he was. He also showed his concerns, when Ahsoka refuse to train and gave his opinion over the matter, as it is the best thing for the Child. At the near end of the episode Mando express, sadness, as he went to go retrieve the Child and place him with Ahsoka, their journey together ending!
Ahsoka Tano (Played by. Rosario Dawson), Makes her debut in the series and is the latest character from the animated series to have a live action debut! Ahsoka made her debut in the opening scene of the episode, in taking down enemy troops and confronting the Magistrate. It is in this confrontation, that we learn that the Magistrate posses knowledge that Ahsoka wants (as to what it was, is unclear till the near end). Ahsoka then gave the Magistrate one day, to give her what she wants and leaves. Ahsoka then make her return, when she confronted the Mandalorian, believing him to be an assassin, but after a brief fight, Ahsoka ceased her attack, when Mando mention the name "Bo Katan". As she powered down her lightsaber's, Mando went in to tell her why he was here, to which she hoped it was about the Child! After a brief one on one with the Child, she went on to tell the Mando, about the Child's history and even his name. This surprise the Mandalorian, as Ahsoka was able to understand him, to which she explain, she and the Child were reading each other's thoughts. Ahsoka then ask the Mandalorian, if the Child still had a strong connection to the "Force", to which Mando believe she was referring to the Child's power and she replied by telling him, that the power is known as the "Force" and as to what the "Force" is. Ahsoka then wanted to test the Child's ability and took them to a place for that test, she then went on to demonstrate on what she wanted the Child to do, by sending a pebble to him through the "Force" and the send it back, but the Child did not. She could sense the fear in the Child and that it was holding him back. Ahsoka then tried a different approach, this time having Mando test the Child, to which it succeeds. Ahsoka could see that Mando and the Child have a strong connection and this leads Ahsoka to refuse to train him as there are dangers, however she was willing to change her mind, when Mando offered his help in taking down the Magistrate. She and Mando, then orchestrated a plan, to which she infiltrated the town and was then confronted by the Magistrate and her forces, to which she presented her with Mando's shoulder plate with his Sigil, making the Magistrate believe that Ahsoka killed him. As the Magistrate retreated to her fortress, after telling her Chief Officer and her troops to deal with Ahsoka. This leads Ahsoka to leads the troops, throughout the town, distracting them while Mando comes in and frees the prisoners that her caged up. Ahsoka dealt with the troops, by first having them split up and dealing with them in small groups. Ahsoka then made her way back to the main street and watch as Mando was confronted by the Chief Officer. She then went inside the stronghold and confronts the Magistrate in her oasis. Ahsoka and the Magistrate duel and after an intense battle, Ahsoka claimed victory, she then proceeds to ask the Magistrate in the information she wanted from her, which was the location of her Master... Grand Admiral Thrawn! After the battle, Ahsoka and Mando watch as the town celebrates and then presents him with the Beskar Spear, but Mando refuse to accept it at first, as he felt he did not earn it, however Ahsoka tells him that the spear should be in the hands of a Mandalorian warrior! She then ask as to where the Child was, to which he was at ship, Mando then goes off to retrieve, with sadness in his voice. Ahsoka meets up with them at the Razor Crest and sees how strong a bond they have, even mentioning how Mando is like a father to the Child. Ahsoka once again refuses to train the child and instead gives Mando another possibility in going to planet known as Tython, where a old temple that has a Great connection to the "Force" and how it can help the Child in finding a Master that can train him. Mando then takes the Child back onboard the ship, which she then smiles and nods her heard to the Child who looks at her. As they flew off, she then goes proceeds to continue to her own quest!
Rosario Dawson, portrayed Ahsoka incredibly in this episode. Incorporating the type of character Ahsoka has been shown throughout her role in the Star Wars Universe! Ahsoka in battle used her surrounding to her advantage. There was one thing that was different in this portrayal, in the animated series Ahsoka always wielded her lightsabers with the blades in the reverse, in the live action Ahsoka wielded them in the standard way, though in her duel with the Magistrate, she used that fighting technique! Rosario Dawson, did great in also portraying the type of personality, Ahsoka has shown throughout her career in Star Wars Franchise, though adding more of a strong, determine in the character as well, as the events of Rebels and the Fate of her Master, during Rebels might have affected in some ways!
The Child/Grogu, had more screen time in this episode than the other's, but did not have to big of a role. He still acted mischievous and not listen to Mando at first and even taking the Metal Sphere on the ships gear lever. It is upon meeting Ahsoka and her interaction with her, that the Child's past is revealed, as well as his name... Grogu. We learn from Ahsoka, that the Child was present in the Jedi Temple during the Clone Wars and had received much training, from the Master in the temple (This explains as to how the Child is able to use the "Force", as well as he can) and that he was present during the Jedi Purge of Order 66, but that he escaped thanks to someone getting him out, but as to who that was and what happened after was a blank for him! Grogu was then tested by Ahsoka, to see how strong he was with the Force", but her attempts failed, as Grogu had great fear in showing off his ability, to which Ahsoka could sense. This leads her to have Mando test him instead, which succeeds, as Grogu has a strong connection to Mando and has no problem using his powers with him, especially when Mando offered the Metal Sphere. However, it was due to this connection for refusing to teach him, to which Mando protest as learning how to master the "Force" is the best way to protect him from the Empire. Grogu's final scene is with Mando, when he came and preparing to part, however Grogu journey with Mando has yet to be over, when Ahsoka still refuse to train him, as instead gave Mando another option to see where Grogu's place is!
Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth (Played by. Diana Lee Inosanto), is the main villain in this episode. She govern over a town on the planet Corvus, to which she rules as a dictator, as while the people love in poverty, she lives in a oasis! She was being plague by Ahsoka, due to information she had, that Ahsoka wanted. With her own troops unable to stop Ahsoka, this leads her to make a bargain with the Mandalorian, in him dealing with Ahsoka and giving him a spear made of Pure Beskar! Though unware of Mando's true motives, this leads to her downfall, when Ahsoka and Mando team up, unknown to her knowledge and leaving her forces vanquish. She was the confronted by Ahsoka and engaged in a duel with her, to which she lost and we learn from Ahsoka that the Magistrate serves Grand Admiral Thrawn!
It is through Ahsoka that we learn about her history, that her town was ravage in the Clone Wars and she was the lone survivor and that the experience turned her cold. We then learn that she created a Industry that created Starships for the Empire, in turn desimated worlds!
The Planet Corvus was quite the unexpected planet to see. When first mention by Bo Katan as a forest planet (in Chapter. 11). Upon the opening scene we see that the planet is desimated, the tree's and forest burned and destroyed, due to the Magistrate's business! However we see despite, a many area's damaged, life still continue to grow!
This can be served as a good example as, what will happen if we go overboard in forest cutdowns!
There were many references in this episode from both the moves and tv series! The First was the Magistrates troopers, which were similar to Death Troopers. The Clone wars and the Jedi Temple on Coruscant were also mention in this episode. Another reference was the Convor bird Morai, that could be heard whenever Ahsoka was around and even had a brief appearance watching the Mandalorian.
Another big reference was Ahsoka mention the dangers of attachments and how even the best of the Jedi can fall down a dark path this is referred to her Master Anakin Skywalker, who descended to the Darkside of the "Force" because of his fear in losing the one he loved. Yoda was also mention in this episode, as he was the only other one of Grogu's kind that Ahsoka knew of. Another reference was the Duels between Mando vs the Chief Officer and Ahsoka vs the Magistrate. The duel between Mando and the Chief Officer was one of those wester style quickdraw showdown's and Ahsoka and the Magistrate's duel was a traditional melee weapon's battle of skill!
The episode revealed some question's that were left after the end of the Rebels Series. Those of course were what happen to both Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared, after the Star Destroyer they were on they were on was taken by the purrgil. That leads to Ahsoka journeying with Sabine to finding Ezra. While, Ezra's where about are still unknown, we learn through the duel of Ahsoka and the Magistrate, that she serves Thrawn, which means... Thrawn has returned and is leading his own faction, after the defeat of the Empire after Endore. However this episode also leaves with a question, as to what has become of Sabine Wren!?
Another thing that this episode has shown is the strength of Pure Beskar. We see, during the brief fight with Mando and Ahsoka, that Beskar is capable in withstanding the energy of a lightsaber, so it cannot be cut by one, which was shown as Mando blocked Ahsoka's strikes with his gauntlets that were made of Pure Beskar. We continue to see this during the duel between Ahsoka and the Magistrate, which we saw her Lightsaber's unable to cut through the Beskar Spear!
During the end of this episode, it presented the Mandalorian with a new weapon... the Beskar Spear and foreshadowing a coming duel with Moff Gideon, as Mando now possesses a weapon able to withstand against the DarkSaber that was in Moff Gideon's possession!
IN MEMORY OF DAVE PROWSE - July 1, 1935 to November 28, 2020
My Rating on The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5 is... (Epic)
Season 2, Episode 6: The Tragedy
Plot - Mando and Grogu arrive at the temple, however they are soon met with unexpected visitors, as well as powerful threats!
The episode opens with Mando amusing himself with Grogu, calling his name a few times. Also testing Grogu in his ability to use the Force with the same method he used last time with the sphere ball!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), Upon arriving at the planet, Mando expresses how if Grogu is able to make contact with the Jedi, that he should go with them, to learn how to use his powers. Upon seeing the temple Mando takes Grogu by Jetpack and upon inspecting the surrounding he wasn't too sure on what to do next and placed Grogu on the "Seeing Stone" at the center of the Temple. Mando unable to figure out what to do next, just waited for Grogu to do something, however upon seeing a ship in the air, Mando needed to take Grogu away, but soon found him surrounded by an energy field and unable to get too him, as well as speak to Grogu as he was in a meditated trance. Mando then went to confront they visitors, where he is confronted by Boba Fett and Fennec Shand to his surprise! Mando believed they were after the Child, but Boba tells him that he want the Armor, to which Mando thought he wanted his, but Boba then retracted him, that he wants his Armor that Mando acquired on Tatooine from Cobb Vanth (From. The Marshal). Mando still refuses to hand over the Armor, as it belongs to the Mandalorian's. They are soon interrupted by the arrival of drop ships carrying Storm Troopers, as Boba and Fennec went to confront the troopers, Mando went to go retrieve Grogu, but found him still in a trance and still surrounded by a energy field. Mando tries to get through the field and reach Grogu but is unable, so he then goes to help fight with Boba and Fennec. He comes to Fennec aid and the two fights off against Storm Troopers, but soon become surrounded, until they were rescued by Boba Fett and they made the remaining troopers retreat. However they're victory is short lived, when they saw Mando's ship being destroyed. Upon this Mando looked and saw a Imperial Light Cruiser in the atmosphere and knew Grogu was in danger and he and Fennec went to his side. However they arrived too late, and saw the Dark Troopers take Grogu. Mando begins inspecting the remains of his ship, only managing to scavenge the metal sphere that Grogu like to play with and the Beskar Spear, that he received from Ahsoka Tano (From. The Jedi). As Mando meets up with Boba and Fennec, he learns about Boba's history with the Armor, how it belonged to his father, and Mando agreed that the Armor belonged to Boba, who could not yet truly accept the armor until Grogu was no longer in danger and both Boba and Fennec agreed to help Mando save Grogu. This leads Mando back to Nevarro, where he meets Cara Dune and is not too surprise to see her as the Marshal to the New Republic. Upon meeting her he requested her help and informs her that Moff Gideon has Grogu!
Mando continue to show how much Grogu has on his life, when they arrived at the planet where the temple is, Mando felt sad, as he believed that they're journey together was coming to an end (just like in the last episode when he was ready to give Grogu to Ahsoka), however he expresses that going with the Jedi, if one comes, was for the best for Grogu, as well as him training in the ways of the Force, which he cannot do! When the Empire showed up, Mando tried to reach Grogu, even tried to breach into the energy field surrounding Grogu! And when Grogu was captured and Boba Fett had a shot to take out the Dark Troopers that took him, Mando told him not too, fearing that Grogu might get injured in the process!
Boba Fett ( Played by. Temuera Morrison), makes his return, after his cameo appearance at the end if the first episode of Season 2, (The Marshal). Mando spotted his ship "The Slave 1" landing. Mando goes to confront whoever has come and that is how he is then confronted by Boba Fett! Boba Fett tells Mando that he has not come for the Child, the armor, to which Mando though it was his, but Boba Fett tells him that he has come for the Amor he retrieved from Cobb Vanth on Tatooine and that the Armor is his! Mando soon questions, if Boba was a Mandalorian and that he had taken the creed, but Boba expresses that he does not give his allegiance to anyone, but that the Amor is his by right, as it was his Father's. Mando refused to hand over the Armor, as it belongs to the Mandalorian's! This leads Boba to strike a deal with Mando, as he had Fennec Shand pointed her blaster at the Grogu, of Mando hands over the Armor, he will ensure Grogu's safety. However their negotiation's are interrupted, by the arrival of Storm Trooper. As Mando went to the Grogu's side, Boba and Fennec went to go confront the Trooper's. After Boba defeated the Storm Troopers in his area, he sees the door to Mando's ship! When Mando and Fennec were surrounded by Storm Troopers, until Boba Fett donning his Amor came to their rescue and force the troopers to retreat, though Boba destroyed they're ships with his jetpack rocket launcher! After seeing Mando's Ship get destroyed, he went to go make sure his ship was safe, and after getting to his ship, he went to go take out the Dark Troopers that had taken Grogu, but did not fire as Mando did not want Grogu injured, so instead Boba tailed them and that's when he learns that the Empire has returned to Republic space! Upon reuniting with Fennec and Mando, Boba showed his claim on the armor and how it belong to his father and explain Jango Fett's history with the Mandalorian's, this leads Mando to let Boba have the Armor, though Bob cannot truly accept the Armor, as he agreed that if Mando gives him, his Armor, he would ensure Grogu's safety. This leads Boba, as well as Fennec to join Mando in saving Grogu!
We got to see Boba Fett in action in the Mandalorian series, as he only had small action scene in the Original Movies. We first got to see him in action (without his Armor), using his melee weapon to defeat Storm Trooper's. We then get too see him in Action when he came to Mando and Fennec aid (This time in Armor) and help drive back the Storm Troopers, we also got too see a new feature that his armor had, (though it seems he is rusty with the armor's weapon's)!
Though Boba Fett did not take the creed of a Mandalorian, he does show that he will fulfill his promises when he gives them!
Fennec Shand (Played by Ming-Na Wen), makes her return, and her fate was revealed! Last time we saw Fennec Shand, she was lying in the sands of Tatooine after being shot and killed by Toro Calican (Played by. Jake Cannavale) in The Gunslinger! At the end of the episode. The Gunslinger we saw a figure find Fennec and that left us with the question on what her fate was!? We learn that the figure in the episode was Boba Fett (Which was one of the possible people), who rescue her and revived her, by giving her electronic implants, that saved her. Fennec now works alongside Boba, as she owns him her life and helps him in reclaiming his Armor, from Mando. Mando was greatly surprised that Fennec was alive. When the Empire arrived, Fennec fought against the Storm Troopers that landed and fought alongside Mando, who came to her aid when she was surrounded! Fennec was surprise when Boba said that the Empire had returned, which she added how this quadrant they were in was New Republic Space! After Grogu was taken and Mando ship was destroyed, she joined Mando and Boba to ensure that Grogu is safe, as Boba had given his word for the Child Safety in return for his Armor.
Ming-Na Wen continue to display what an action star she is! The way she took on a group of Storm Troopers, the "Calvary" is still in her. Ming-Na Wen seems to have captured being a character in the Star Wars universe greatly, and has able to incorporate her character from Agents of Shield "Melinda May" into Fennec Shand, but also give her that Former Imperial vibe!
Grogu displayed many knew abilities, as well as his part in this series! Upon arriving at the temple, Mando place, Grogu on the seeing stone. Mando was unable to understand how the stone works, but Grogu, could feel something, already and that is what lead to him interring into this meditated trance and being protected by an energy field. unaware of what was going on around him, until he was taken by the Dark Troopers. Though even as a prisoner, Grogu showed that he was not going to submit easily, teaching two Storm Troopers and thing or two!
Moff Gideon (Played by. Giancarlo Esposito), finally takes action against Mando and retrieve Grogu. He continue to show what a military strategist he was, which helped him in taking Grogu and stranding Mando! Upon meeting Grogu he was impressed by his abilities, though upon incapacitating Grogu he, was ready to proceed with the next part of his plan!
Cara Dune (Played by. Gina Carano), makes a brief appearance at the end of the episode, where she present Mando with her New Republic Badge, to which he is not too surprise by it. We learn that she has accepted the role in be a Marshal to the New Republic! Though she has new responsibilities now, which holds her back in helping Mando, until he informs her that Grogu has been taken!
The Dark Troopers, which made a brief appearance in The Siege, make they're full debut, as well as being the first live action Droid Storm Troopers in the Franchise! Troopers like these have only made appearances in games and animated t.v. series, so Mandalorian has taken a big step in the Live Action of Star Wars! We did not get too see the full capabilities of the Dark Troopers, besides the ability of flight! Beside the Dark Troopers, another New Storm Trooper also made it's appearance in this episode. A heavy class Storm Trooper with yellow markings. A trooper like that had only made an appearance in games and toy franchises!
Another thing that made it's return from the movies to this series is Boba Fett's Ship, the Slave 1. This Ship has not been seen in live action since, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones!
The episode showed why Moff Gideon wanted Grogu, as he needed his blood for they're goal, of course this continues to question, if they're plan involves the creation of Snoke, or to help revive Empire Palpatine!?
The Mandalorian does seem to show the Transition of the Remnant Empire into the First Oder it will become!
My Rating on The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 6 is... (Epic)
Season 2, Episode 7: The Believer
Plot - In an attempt to find Moff Gideon and Rescue Grogu, Mando enlist the help of an old acquaintance. which leads him into quite the circumstances!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), proceeds with the first step in tracking down Moff Gideon and rescue Grogu. Along with Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, he also has the help of Cara Dune, who uses her new authority as Marshal to the New Republic to get Migs Mayfield (From. The Prisoner) out of prison, so he can help Mando in finding Moff Gideon Ship! Mando's mission takes his team to a planet that has a Imperial Factory, to which Mayfield needs to enter in order to gain the intel Mando needs. Upon arriving Mando and his team were able to acquire a Imperial Cargo Vehicle, and he joins Mayfield in entering the base. Mando face his first inner challenge, which was removing his armor and donning Imperial Armor in order to assist Mayfield in entering the base. As they made they're way to the base, Mando and Mayfield are encounter with Raiders, Mando goes to deal with them, but finds it challenging as he using a new set of armor that is worthless in combat, but with his skills he was able to make due. Arriving at the base, they are welcomed as heroes, though they still continue to remain on mission, however they are met with an obstacle, as Mayfield sees an old acquaintance who he has bad history with. Mayfield refusing to move forward, as he fears in being notice, Mando takes the role in finding Moff Gideon's ship, this is where he is faced with his 2nd inner challenge. In order to access the terminal, to get Moff Gideon's coordinates, it needs face reignition. Mando first tries to access the terminal without removing his helmet, but fails, which leads him to remove his helmet and he was able to get the intel he needs. However after getting the intel, he was met with the Imperial Officer, who called out to him. Mando unable to answer in Imperial manner remained silent, which almost lead to the Officer to get suspicious, until Mayfield came to his assist. Though his assist backfired when Mayfield killed the Officer, which leads them to fight they're way to the roof, where they're extraction was to be at. With the help of Mando's team outside, they were able to escape. With the Intel he needed, Mando sent a message to Moff Gideon, saying the exact same words, Gideon said to him when they first encountered each other (In. Redemption)!
Mando was face with many personal challenges, primarily in removing his armor, as well as revealing his face. We could see in his expression, on how he felt when he removed his helmet and other's saw his face, you could tell that he feels disgrace within himself in breaking the creed. This however shows how far he is willing to go in saving Grogu!
Migs Mayfield (Played by. Ran Malk), makes his return, after his last appearance in The Prisoner. We see him working in a dismantle scrapyard, serving out his sentence. Until he is taken into the custody of Cara Dune, though unaware of her intention's, until he is soon sees Mando appear before him, to which he proclaims, he wants to go back to doing his work in the scrapyard. Until he is given the option in getting a deal, to which he thought it was reduce of his sentence, but Cara informs him, that's not happening and that his deal will be him having a much comfortable sentence tp carry out, to which he accepts. He is told of what Mando needs from him, to which Mayfield has his fears when the name Moff Gideon came up. Mayfield then tells Mando, that in order to find Gideon's ship, he needs to access an imperial terminal, which leads them to a planet that has an Imperial Factory. He and Mando manage to infiltrate the base. However he is unable to proceed when he sees an old acquaintance of his, who he has bad history and refuses to move forward with the plan, to which Mando takes his place and Mayfield got the chance in seeing Mando's face. He soon came to Mando's aid, when the Imperial Officer confronted Mando. It is through this meeting that we learn, about Mayfield's past and his reason in leaving the Empire after it fell, which also leads Mayfield to kill the Imperial Officer, which forces Mando and him to fight they're way to the roof. Mayfield, shows how good of a marksman he is, by shooting the Rhydonium in the transport and destroys the entire base in the process! Because of his bravery, assistance and hurting the Empire, he was given a pardon by Cara who will report that he died, and Mando allowing him to go free as well for his help, to which he takes this chance!
Cara Dune (Played by. Gina Carano), joins Mando's team in his mission to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon. She is able to help him acquire, Migs Mayfield, from a New Republic Detention Center, as he needs Mayfield's knowledge on Imperial's to help him track down Gideon's ship. Cara was able to use her position as a Marshal to the New Republic to take Mayfield into her Custody and present him to Mando. Upon arriving Mayfield told them what he needs to do and where to do it, to which she helped acquire a Imperial Transport, by sneaking and taking down the guards. As Mando and Mayfield went inside the Imperial Factory, she remained outside with Fennec, providing sniper support. She and Fennec covered Mando and Mayfield, as they headed to the roof of the building, where Boba extracted them, she watched as Mayfield, destroyed the factory and became impressed. This leads Cara to give Mayfield a pardon and report that he died in an accident, to which he took it. She then regrouped with the other's and proceeded to their next step in rescuing Grogu!
Fennec Shand (Played by Ming-Na Wen), continues to give Mando her support, in helping him rescue Grogu. While preparing to start their mission, we learn that she is wanted by a group that supports the Empire and so she is unable to be part of the mission to infiltrate the Imperial Base. This leads her to provide Sniper Support, along with Cara Dune! Fennec points out, how good of a shot Mayfield is, when one of his shots, leads to the destruction of the Imperial Factory, to which helps Cara give Mayfield his pardon! Fennec then regroups with the others as they make they're way to the next part of their mission!
Boba Fett ( Played by. Temuera Morrison), also provides his assistance to Mando, showing that he will help him save Grogu, honoring his agreement to Mando in the return of his Armor. Boba Fett's role in the mission was to extract Mando and Mayfield on the roof of the Imperial Factory, after accomplishing what they set out to do, to which it was a success and Mando made sure they were not pursued by Tie-Fighters for long!
In this episode Boba Fett, get's a new paint job on his armor, while still keeping to it's original color design, but this time they were more Dark Colors, then Light Colors!
The Episode had many references to the movies, but also to the Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017). As when Mayfield and Mando were speaking to the Imperial Officer, Mayfield mentioned Operation: Cinder, that he was a part of. Operation: Cinder was the main piece in the campaign of Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017) game that centered around Iden Versio. This is the first connection to the Star Wars Games, only the games have ever established a connection to the Star Wars Movies! There is also a reference to Jedi Fallen Order, with Cara Dune entering a Imperial Vehicle, surprising the troopers and knocking them out. Another reference that the episode made was to Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, with Boba Fett's ship, the Slave 1, with it's Seismic Charge that Boba used to destroy the Tie-Fighters. A feature that has not been seen since Attack of the Clones!
My Rating for The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 7 is... (Awesome)
Season 2, Episode 8: The Rescue
Plot - Mandalorian is ready to save Grogu, enlisting the help of allies he's made in his journey. This mission will putting against Moff Gideon and his Dark Troopers.
This episode brings together elements from Mando's Journey in season 2. It also references to the movies, as well as other Star Wars franchises. We see the return of some allies Mando made through his journey in locating Mandalorian's and the Jedi. The episode also finally gives us the Battle between The Mandalorian Vs Moff Gideon. The episode also introduces an important character in the Star Wars Movie, specifically the "Originals"! This episode contains an end credit scene, first time this type of element was use in the Star Wars Franchise!
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Played by. Pedro Pascal), is ready to save Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon. He and Cara first manage to take Dr. Pershing to they're custody, after attacking his shuttle. He then enlist the help of Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves. It is through reuniting Bo-Katan, that Mando learns of Moff Gideon's possession of the DarkSaber and Bo-Katan's desire to retrieve it and also defeat Moff Gideon. After they agree to help Mando, they return to Boba's ship with the other's of his team to formulate a plan, when they learn of the Dark Troopers from Dr. Pershing, as well as learning of that they are droids and they're capabilities! It is then, when they infiltrate Gideon's Light Cruiser, that Mando will go alone to save Grogu, as well as stop the Dark Troopers, while the rest take the bridge, as well as create a distraction for him to sneak through the ship.
Upon entering the Light Cruiser and Cara, Fennec, Bo-Katan and Koska make they're way to the bridge, while Mando makes his way to the holding cells, where Grogu was being kept. On him, Mando wields the Beskar Spear, which he acquired from Ahsoka Tano (From. The Jedi) for the first time. He makes his way through the ship undetected, but soon comes into confrontation with a Dark Trooper, when he sees them coming out of they're chamber. Mando tries to stop them, by closing the door, but one manage to get through and attacked Mando. His armor protected him, but Mando found that most of his weapons prove in effect against the Dark Trooper, but manage to defeat it, with the Beskar Spear! Mando then stopped the other, before they broke through the door, by ejecting them into space.
Soon later Mando made his way to Grogu's cell and came face to face with Moff Gideon who was standing over Grogu with the DarkSaber. Gideon propose a truth's with Mando, in returning Grogu to him, Mando would leave Gideon's ship, to which he accept. However when Mando went to get Grogu, Moff Gideon attacked him with the DarkSaber, leading to a duel between the two. Mando defending himself with his Beskar armor, then face Gideon with the Beskar Spear! As the two fought, Mando displayed his use in Melee weapons and defeated Moff Gideon.
After defeating Gideon, Mando too him and Grogu to the bridge, wielding the DarkSaber. This in turn created a problem between him and Bo-Katan, as since he defeated Moff Gideon in combat, the right to wiled the DarkSaber belongs to him and the only way for Bo-Katan to wield it again was to defeat Mando in Combat. However Mando showed that he was not interested in the Saber and was willingly to give the blade to Bo-Katan, to which she refused.
They soon became interrupted when Mando and his team learned that the Dark Troopers returned to the ship and made they're way to the bridge. Leading to them to lock the bridge down and prepare for a fight. However they were rescue, when a X-Wing ship came on board and Mando and the rest saw through the Monitor a Jedi, destroying the Dark Troopers and made his way to the bridge. While the rest were hesitant in letting the Jedi in, Mando opened the door, as he knew it was the Jedi, that heard Grogu's call. After meeting the Jedi, Mando gave his goodbye to Grogu, telling him that his place was with the Jedi and promising to meet him again someday. When he saw Grogu, reach for his helmet, this leads Mando to show his face to Grogu, wanting to see him off face to face. He continue to watch as the Jedi took Grogu away.
This episode, once again shows how close of a bond Din Djarin has with Grogu. Making a deal with Moff Gideon to ensure Grogu's safety. and at the end, when it was time to part way, he was sad to say goodbye, but understood that Grogu needed to go to the Jedi to he can master his abilities to be safe, from those who hunt him. And also revealing his face to Grogu, willingly as he took the creed and never took off his helmet, only on times when necessary.
Grogu makes his return to the show, after being taken by Dark Troopers (Chapter. 6: The Tragedy). His role in the final episode was small, his first scene was when Mando made it to his cell, with Moff Gideon standing above him, in the near end of the episode. After Mando defeated Gideon, he took them both to the bridge and Mando put Grogu somewhere safe, when the Dark Troopers attacked. However when the X-Wing came on board the Light Cruiser, Grogu could sense something from the ship and when the others saw threw the screens that a Jedi came on board and destroy the Dark Troopers. Grogu could sense that it was the Jedi he called when he was on the Stone at the temple, and Mando could tell this as well, when he saw Grogu reach out with his hand to the monitor, showing the Jedi. When the Jedi entered the bridge, he looked to Grogu and wanted Grogu to come along with him, however Grogu hesitated, to which Mando believed that Grogu didn't want to go with the Jedi, but that was it it, Grogu wanted to Mando to tell him it was ok to go with him, as Grogu had a great bond with him and didn't want to leave Mando, unless he was ok with it. Mando then told him to go with the Jedi, as he stated that he was his kind, but promise that they would see each other again. Grogu then reach to Mando helmet with his helmet, this leads Mando to remove his helmet and showed his face to Grogu, wanting to see him off face to face and Grogu was then taken by the Jedi!
Moff Gideon (Played by. Giancarlo Esposito) first scene in the episode was in the Bridge, as he watch and in Imperial transport, being fired by the Slave 1. He denied the Transport docking into the ship, first and instead deployed Tie Fighters, as he recognize the voice of the transmission as Bo-Katan. He then anticipated what was their plan, when the transport stilled crashed inside the ship. Knowing the Bo-Katan was after him and was making her way to the Bridge, he instead chose to confront Mando, knowing that he was involve in this as well, and that he came for the Grogu. When he confronted Mando, Gideon showed him the DarkSaber which was what Bo-Katan was after and it's importance to Mangalore's future, however Mando told him, that he was here for Grogu. This leads Gideon to strike a deal with him. Gideon will give back Grogu to Mando, if he agrees to leave his ship in peace, to which Mando accepted. However when Mando attempted to take Grogu, Gideon attacked him, leading to a duel between the two. Mando defeated Gideon but sparred his life, to which he was surprise and interested in seeing how this will play out. When Mando took Gideon to the Bridge, he stated how Mando defeated him and is now the wielder of the DarkSaber, and continue to point out how, now Bo-Katan would have to beat Mando, if she is to be able to wield the DarkSaber again. This of course was a plot Gideon was devising to create confrontation between Mando and Bo-Katan. However when the Dark Troopers returned to the ship and made they're way to him and believe he had attained victory. But that soon change, when the Jedi arrived and upon seeing the Jedi, Gideon knew who it was and tried to kill Grogu, but was thwarted by Mando, thus trying to kill himself , but stopped by Cara Dune and was knocked out. His fate now remains a mystery, as well as his future role in the Star Wars Franchise.
Moff Gideon, proved to be a great villain in the Star Wars Franchise. His tactics, his quick thinking, as well as combat skills were all the element of a great Star Wars villain. Giancarlo really portrayed his role amazingly, as Moff Gideon has been the best villain, since Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine in the Originals Star Wars Series.
Cara Dune (Played by. Gina Carano), continues to help Mando in saving Grogu. Helping him in capturing Dr. Pershing, as well as a Imperial Transport. After Mando recruited Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves, Cara was present when Bo-Katan formulated a plan to infiltrate the Light Cruiser, however Cara voiced her opinion in wanting to take Gideon into custody, when Bo-Katan wanted to kill him, stating that Gideon possess valuable intel for the New Republic. When they infiltrated the ship, Cara was with Bo-Katan, Fennec Shand and Koska Reeves, as they fought and blast they're way to the Bridge and Cara showed how tough she was and when her blaster was jammed, she'll just use it t slam the Storm Troopers. When they took the bridge, she along with Bo-Katan were shock to find Moff Gideon missing! Cara was please, when Mando brought Moff Gideon alive, but also happy to see Grogu was ok. When the Dark Troopers re-entered the ship, Cara was ready to fight along with the others, but then saw as the Jedi that came took them out. When Moff Gideon saw the Jedi, he tried to kill himself, after his failed attempt in killing the child, but was stopped by Cara. At the end of the episode, Cara watched as Mando said his farewell to Grogu and saw Grogu leave with the Jedi!
We see in this episode that the mention and events on what became of her home planet Alderaan is a very sore subject to her. She will not hesitate to take anyone down to would dishonor her planets memory.
Bo-Katan (Played by. Kathryn Ann "Katee" Sackoff), makes her return to the series after her last appearance in (The Heiress). She was in a Tavern with Koska Reeve, when Mando and Boba came to recruit her help. Though she believed that he wanted her for a Bounty Hunter mission and was going to refuse. She was also hesitant towards Boba Fett, as she believed he was disgrace to his Armor and that he was no real Mandalorian and nothing more than another clone she has met! After hearing that Grogu was taken and by Moff Gideon was the one who took him, she agreed to help him, though her goal was to both capture Gideon's Light Cruiser, as well as reclaim the DarkSaber that was once her's so she can help restore Mandalore, as well as insisting to Mando to join her cause. Upon meeting with the rest of Mando's team, she formulated the plan of attack, but told everyone that Moff Gideon was her's to deal with, though Cara protest, as she needed to take him in to custody, to which she replied that as long has he submits to her, Cara can have him. Bo-Katan fought alongside Cara, Fennec and Koska as they fought they're way through the Bridge. Only after they had taken the Bridge, Bo-Katan expresses her displeasure to find Moff Gideon missing. After Mando had come to the Bridge with Grogu in his arm and Moff Gideon in his custody, as well as wielding the DarkSaber, Bo-Katan asked what happened, but knew that Mando had defeated Moff Gideon. This creates a problem for her, Gideon pointed out that since Mando was the one who defeated him, he has claim to the Saber and not her. Mando however was willingly to give her the Saber, but she could not, as only in defeating Mando can she claim the DarkSaber and by just receiving it would make her unworthy to lead Mandalore. This topic however was interrupted when they all learned that the Dark Trooper, were coming to them. Bo-Katan was ready to fight like all the others, but they watched as the Dark Troopers pull they're attention to someone else. It was Bo-Katan who pointed out that the one the Dark Troopers were fighting was a Jedi. After the Dark Troopers were defeated, she watched as Grogu left with the Jedi!
The Debate as to why Bo-Katan did not accept the DarkSaber from Mando. In Star Wars Rebels, Bo-Katan accepted the DarkSaber from Sabine Wren, without having to face her in combat. The reason why Bo-Katan was able accept the Saber at that time, was because Sabine didn't truly earn the right to wield the Saber itself, from Maul who earned the right to wield the Saber after defeating Pre Vizsla in combat in Clone Wars, and since Maul just left the Saber behind means that it was freely able to be wielded by anyone to claims it. However since Bo-Katan lost the Saber to Moff Gideon during the purge on Mandalore, the only way for her to earn the right to wield it again was to defeat Moff Gideon in combat, but since Mando was the one who defeated him, he is the one who has the right to the DarkSaber and so she cannot accept it in any way, whether Mando freely give the Saber or he forfeits the battle between them, those way would make her unworthy to both wield the DarkSaber, as well as rule Mandalore.
Fennec Shand (Played by Ming-Na Wen) continue to provide her aid to Mando in helping save Grogu. She helped infiltrate and fight against Storm Troopers on the Light Cruiser and take the Bridge. Fennec showed her combat skills in hand to hand, as well as wielding a blaster. Also providing aid to her compatriots when they are in a jam. After taking the bridge she waited along with the other, until Mando came with Grogu rescued, and Moff Gideon in custody. However when the Dark Troopers came, she told them to seal the doors and prepare to fight along with the others. At the end though she watched as the Dark Troopers and she was hesitant to let the Jedi in the Bridge, when he was standing outside, but Mando still opened the door so Grogu can meet him. Fennec watched as Grogu left with the Jedi.
Note Fennec Shand is one who has seen Din Djarin face, something that Boba has not seen.
Koska Reeve (Played by. Sasha Banks) also make her return to the series after her debut in (The Heiress). She was with Bo-Katan in the Tavern, when Mando and Boba came to recruit them. She was in a confrontation upon meeting Boba, though Bo-Katan stopped that. She then helped in Mando mission in saving Grogu and stopped Moff Gideon. She fought alongside the others as the made they're way through the bridge and took it over. Koska then waited like the rest, until Mando arrive, with Gideon. And saw as the Dark Troopers were destroyed by the Jedi and then watched as Grogu left with him.
Boba Fett ( Played by. Temuera Morrison) also continues to help Mando in saving Grogu, as he gave his word to him in return of his armor in (The Tragedy). Though his role in the episode was minimum, as his first scene was in taking down the Imperial Transport that Dr. Pershing was in and take him into custody. He then went with Mando, when he went to go recruit Bo-Katan and Koska Reeve. Upon meeting them Boba Fett, felt they they did not need them, which leads to a confrontation with them. As Bo-Katan pointed out that he is not a Mandalorian, to which he never claimed to be and then she said that he has no right to his armor to which he defended that his Armor belonged to his father. This however make Bo-Katan point out that Boba is actually a clone, and her history with other's like him, this leads him to threaten her and thus leading to a fight with Koska, especially when Boba pointed out on how reclaiming Mandalore was a lost cause. As they fought both showed how skilled they were. After Bo-Katan agreed to help them, he followed her plan in attacking them in the Imperial Transport they captured, allowing them to dock with Gideon's ship. Once this part was accomplish, Boba Fett made his escape when Tie Fighters came after them.
Dr. Pershing (Played by. Omid Abtahi) makes his return after his holographic appearance in (The Siege). He was in the Imperial Transport that Mando and his team attacked and was taken into their custody to gain intel on Moff Gideon. It is through him that they learned about the Dark Troopers, they're capabilities and that they are droids.
The Season Finale gave us the biggest Character from the Star Wars Franchise, as well as who would be the Jedi who heard Grogu's call. In the end it was the most obvious choice, as well as the last student of Yoda... Luke Skywalker! Luke Skywalker was portrayed by Max Lloyd-Jones, but his face was CGI to resemble a young Mark Hamill (Who played Luke Skywalker in the Original film), as well as his voice was alter to also resemble Luke's voice.
Luke was the one who heard Grogu's call and sent out to find him, leading him to Moff Gideon's ship on his X-Wing and also dealing with the Dark Troopers. Upon meeting Grogu, he was ready to take him, but sense that Grogu wanted permission from Mando to go with Luke. Luke told Mando that the only way for Grogu to truly be safe, is to train in mastering his abilities and vowing that he will give his life to protect him to Mando, to which he believes.
The Portraying of Luke Skywalker was done really well. He acted like he did in Return of the Jedi, only know as a true Jedi Master. He was also able to use the force to connect to Grogu and understand his thoughts and feeling like Ahsoka Tano in (The Jedi).
Of course Luke wasn't the only Guest Character from the Star Wars Movies. As if Luke is flying his X-Wing ship, R2-D2 flies along with him. R2 came along with Luke to the Light Cruiser and made his debut at the near end of the episode. Upon meeting Grogu, both R2 and Grogu establish a connection between them and R2 showed his excitement when he met Grogu, possibly remembering Master Yoda.
The Duel between Mandalorian/Din Djarin vs Moff Gideon, has long been anticipated since the end of Season 1, when we saw Moff Gideon slice his way out of his crash Tie Fighter and wielding the DarkSaber in (Redemption). Of course we wondered on how that duel would play out and how Mando would combat the DarkSaber. (My personal theory, was during Mando's travels in finding a Jedi, he comes across Luke/Anakin's Lightsaber and wields it to face Moff Gideon and the DarkSaber)! Over the course of season 2, he comes into the possession of a Spear made of pure Beskar in (The Jedi), from Ahsoka Tano and as we saw during her Duel against Magistrate Morgan, the Spear is capable of withstanding against a Lightsaber. The Duel was played out incredibly, both Mando and Moff Gideon showing great skill. It also incorporates well to how Duels were performed in the original Star Wars Movies! The was truly one of the biggest fulfillments that Season 2 gave us!
The Final episode, made great references to the past animated series like, Clone Wars and Rebels, as well as some references to the movies, especially to Rogue One.
The Greatest reference the movies was the Hallway fight scene with Luke Skywalker vs the Dark Troopers. This is a reference to the scene at the end of Rogue One, with Darth Vader facing off against Rebel Troopers! This scenario was also use in the Final Season of Clone Wars with Darth Maul against the Clone Troopers (Minus a lightsaber).
The final episode of The Mandalorian Season 2, contained a end credit scene, which is a first in the Star Wars Franchise.
The End Credit, takes us back to Tatooine at Jabba The Hutt's Palace, where we saw what became of his Criminal Organization after his death, by the hand of Leia Organa in Return of the Jedi. We see that his right hand man Bib Furtuna (Played by. Matthew Wood, who originally played the role in Return of the Jedi) has taken over, until Fennec Shand and Boba Fett (fulling their promise to Mando in saving Grogu, set out to their own agenda) storms into the palace, as Fennec kills his guards and free a captive Twi'lek slave. When Boba came into the throne room, Bib was shocked to see him alive, as well as terrified, leading him to try to get in Boba's good nature, however Boba did not give him a second, as he killed him instantly and remove Bib from the throne chair and sat on it himself, with Fennec Shand at his side, taking over the palace and presumably Jabba's Empire!? This end credit scene was the kick off the the Next Star Wars Disney+ series, called The Book of Boba Fett!
