Maraudar Episode 10
"So, you had that planned." A badly injured but still alive Thaddeus uttered. "Show him no mercy!"
The soldiers and Steel Monger charge at Marauder, firing their weapons. Thanks to Caseys armor, they are innefective. A multitude of laser blasts overwhelms Casey, making him loose his ability to concentrate. On Oz's end, he was noticing some wild fluctuationa in Caseys vitals.
"Casey," he said. "You're loosing focus. Concentrate your dark matter on the guns. Disintigrate them.
Casey could feel the heat from the blasts getting more intense as they all fired in unison. Casey grounded himself, and built up an aura of dark energy without the Opus soldiers realizing. In a dark and purple burst, their weapons dissolved into a black powder, leaving all of Opus speechless.
Thaddeus cackled. "So, you managed to dustify our weapons. Not a big deal. But these might be."
Casey then heard mechanical grinding coming from the distance. When all the smoke cleared from the laser blasts, groups of giant mechanical monstrosities approached the soldiers and Casey. The magnitude of these machines was overwhelming.
Casey smirked. "You think these poorly constructed toys of yours can stop me? I just took out most of your arsenal."
"You may have," Sycthe chimed in. "But these mechanical giants have a sort of reaction switch in them you could say."
"What do you mean?" Casey growled.
"Lets just say, if anyone of them gets desteoyed, a small but powerful bomb will detonate in sync with a destructive force capable enough to wipe out the entire city. You see, these are the first step to our plan for world domination."
"Thats what you needed the atomic stablizer for. To prevent an accidental explosion."
"Correct."
"Oz, you getting any of this?" He asked his intelligent comrade.
"Yes, Im looking for a week spot. Ill try to hack it but this security system is extremly tight. Try to keep them distracted. Remember, we cant destroy them right now."
"Oh, well look at that, looks like you have a friend on the other end there." Thaddeus mocked. "We'll make sure you'll never see him again. Opus soldiers, come with me. I think Scythe and Steel Monger can finish the Maurader once and for all."
The robotic titans formed a barrier around Steel Monger, Scythe, and the Marauder. Scythe readied his weapon. They began to charge, and the Marauder readied his armor, will, dark energy, and whatever strength he had left. All of the sudden, a figure landed in the center of the barrier, sending Steel Monger, Scythe, and some of the robots flying backward.
"How many times am I going to fall back tonight?!" Scythe yelled in frustration.
"Lets kill him together." Steel Monger said.
"Two against one is a little unfair, dont you think?" A female voice said from the center.
Everyone looked surprised as they noticed a female in a clad dark blue outfit with a mask. Casey smiled as he knew who it was. He knew something was different about Kelsy. He had to admit her costumes color scheme was pretty eye catching. Now he wanted to see what they could do as a team.
"I had that one." He teased.
"Oh sure," she responded sarcastically. "Lets save the city, yeah?"
Casey approached their side and they readied to fight their foes. Scythe charged at Marauder Steel Monger charged at Kelsy. Casey went all martial arts expert on Scythe, deflecting each of his weapon strikes. Kelsey was giving Steel Monger a real beatdown as the two fought dynamically in synchronicity. One final blow and Steel Monger shattered into a million steel fragments, and Marauder discovered she had super strength as well. This caught Scythe off guard, and Marauder threw him to the ground, and Kesly disarmed him.
"Tell your men to stand down, and you may walk out of here alive." Casey threatened.
Scythe, badly beaten by the Marauder, cackled. "You fool. You think my men will stand down? Even you and your blonde whore teammate couldnt even take my men down with the enhancements they had."
Kelsy slapped Scythe using the less of her strength. "Care to call me that again, asshole?"
"Dont worry." Casey grinned. "I left a little surprise at the Police Station.
Back at the pre sinct, the new soldiers standing guard were unaware of the events that were happening underground. Captain Dawes had lead his men under a doomsday shelter that the Marauder had discovered. He dubbed it 'the point.' A week earlier, he had left the Captain instructions on what to do when Opus's invasion happened. Thaddeus and the rest of the soldiers arrived at the station.
"Well men," he said to them as they spread out around the station, one half inside the other half out. "I think its time we make ourselves known to the world."
"Now." Casey said on his coms.
"Thats the signal. Now!" Captain Dawes said.
Some officers pressed buttons that were installed underground. A red shield with a honeycomb like structure appeared around the station, then started crackling with electricty. The Opus soldiers screamed as they felt temporarily paralyzed. They then fell to the ground unconscious and the shield dissipated.
"Wheres your army now?" Casey said as he showed Scythe a hologram of a live news broadcast of what happened outside the Police Station. He still laughed at the loss of his army.
"You may have defeated my army, but dont you havent forgotten my-" Kelsy delivered a punch to Scythes face, knocking him out. The mechanical beasts started sparking randomly. The two discovered Scythe had his thumb pressed on a hidden button before he was knocked out.
"He was going to blow them up either way. A killswitch. Oz?"
"I managed to hack the mainframe, but by the time I can shut them down, its bye bye Vegas."
Casey looked at Kelsy. "What else can you do. "I can fly, and will take two of them to the upper atmosphere. Youll have to take two of them on your own. Can you handle it?"
Casey looked at the other two robots who were now starting to shake. "Take them."
Kelsy rounded up the robots, then took off into the air. She eventually made it past the clouds and the stars became more visible. Using all her strength, she threw the robots as high as she could. In a few seconds, she saw an impressive blast ring, and the same one on the ground, but surrounded in black aura. Did Casey survive? She flew back to the ground. Scythes body had evaporated from the blast and a large crater where Casey stood lay there. There was no sign of him. Kesly then felt an impression of something under the crater. It was his coms. She put it on.
"This is Kelsy. Im known in the field as Krystal."
"Hello Krystal, you can call me Oz. Impressive fight, to the both of you. Speaking of, what the hell happened to Casey."
"I dont know Oz. Scythes gone too, but he left an impression after his body evaporated. I cant say the same for Casey." Kesly flew around the area one more time, but still no sign.
One month later
A month after the Opus invasion, the public was fully disclosed about what happened. Thaddeus amd Scythe were stripped of there powers and resources and placed in a maximum security prison that even Houdini couldnt escape if he was still alive. Anything left from Opus was placed in another top secret area.
Kelsy was popularized as a hero known as Krystal but wouldnt accept any awards or fame unless the Marauder got the same recognition. Posters and newspapers were all around town along the lines of "MARAUDER: HERO OF OUR TIME?" "MARAUDER AND KRYSTAL SAVE THE CITY" "MARAUDER MISSING: PRESUMED DEAD"
Kelsy skimmed one of the articles as her and Oz sat on a bench.
"This was the very same place where Casey told me his secret." She said. "He was a completly different person back then."
"What changed him?" Oz asked.
"I think it was the city." She replied. "And personally, me. He always had his mind straight whenever we talked. I think he hadnt had friends for a while and he felt comfortable around me."
"I dont doubt that. Well, we should definitely give him a warm welcome whenever he gets back. I know hes still out there. Whatever he got himself into, he probably shouldnt have done it alone."
"Im pretty sure Casey can handle himself."
"I know. But he needs a team. And Im sure he'll love the new headquarters when he comes home."
Later that night, Kelsy finds a mysterious envelope on her desk. It has no writing on it. This could very well be from Casey. She opens it with caution.
"Kesly, Im sorry I didnt get this to you sooner. When the explosion mixed itself with my dark energy, It knocked me unconscious. When I woke up, I found myself on the other side of the world. Im trying very hard to get back, but I got side tracked after I got a lead on something groundbreaking. Ill promise Ill tell you and Oz more when I get back."
-Casey
Kelsy sighed of relief, but was also concerned on what Casey had found. It could be goundbreaking as he claims, but could also get himself killed. Only time will tell.
South America
"Is this the place, sir?" A Brazilian man driving an offroad vehicle said as it stopped.
"Yes." A man in an explorers outfit replied. He got off the vehicle and paid the driver. This mans name was Casey Adams. He had finally found what he had been looking for. The last dark energy artifact. He had no idea of the dangers that lie ahead for him to get it. Unfathomable challenges and twists were in his future. He wasnt going to let that stop him. The Marauder wont stop until he has the artifact.
